Almost missed her!

Post by Koralth »

Well, I found the girl...

In the meantime, you know how tough it is to type with a bunch of bandages on an injured shoulder? It's a lot more awkward and painful than I would have imagined (Anyone looking to exercise their healing abilities? Come on down, I won't complain!)

I suppose, though, you probably want to hear the scoop, though, am I right? I am, aren't I? This is me, working on maintaining suspense in my story!

... Hey, the rest of you do it so well... I'm entitled to take it to the next level and try suspending it before I've even started. I'll teach all of you to make the rest of us worry while we wait for the rest of a story to be told!

Hey, if you were still up in the Chicago area, I'd love to help... Do you still have that healing amulet I sent you way back when?

Hey, you know what? I do! I'm home again, so yeah - Chicago-land. Can't believe I didn't bring the amulets or anything, I guess I have to get used to the idea that now that I'm associating with different crowds, even small trinkets can save my life. I hope I'm not the only one that it takes so long for to adjust to these new concepts.

Damn, man... I'll stop by tomorrow after work, if you still need the patch-up. Sorry it couldn't be tonight, but...I've gotta work on re-warding my house, tonight.

It started out with my new employment with Mr. T. He wanted me to go on down to Houston, Tx to find a girl who is currently having issues with psychic ability development. Well, the issues actually are more with her foster parents, who belong to a 'club' that wanted to make use of her newfound energy pool... Coincidentally, I'm not sure what they'd have done with the husk after they were done with her, either, I'm sure I don't want to know. Fortunately, it would appear that, from what I've heard bouncing back and forth here on the Society boards, her skills are more specifically "sensitive" mind-read-y type skills. She ran away from home, and had been pursued since her departure.

Michael had a bunch of intelligence on the girl already by the time I took the offer, including the side of town she was likely to be on, the scenes/groups she was associated with, physical description with photos, etc. etc. Even with all this information, I knew that finding her in an unfamiliar city would still be difficult, at best. I started out with a visit to her school, to see if she was still going there, whether it was to meet with friends who would sympathize with her situation, or a force of habit, or for any other reason. She was smarter than this, and I did not see her at any point during the day. My next stops were the night scene at some of her favored goth type clubs. It took me several days of club hopping, but I finally saw her chatting away with some of her friends. As I found out, apparently serious people and playful people have two very different mindsets. Swing and a miss. I proceeded to see her another two times, both of which she fled from me on, before I had a run-in with the other people that were pursuing her. She looked about ready to pass out when she looked at me, started to run, saw someone else that she recognized, turned towards the main doors only to reveal yet another person she apparently did not want to encounter - all the while, I'm trying to figure out why she's avoiding the doors, unlike the other times I went after her, if something was going to break out in the building this time, and how to evacuate the crowds if something DID break out.

Apparently, even she didn't notice a third man making his way towards her.

Sorry, even unemployed, always so much to do!

Anyway, this last guy comes up behind her, and until this happened, the events had been (thankfully) largely ignored/unnoticed by the rest of the crowd. I saw him coming up on her, but couldn't do much but yell "Watch out!" Unfortunately, this, too, was largely drowned out in the noise of the club (It was in the middle of a rather loud dance song).

She fought when he grabbed her, but she's just so young and small that it didn't seem to do that much to help her out. Some of the kids in their area protested this action, in that grabbing people from behind and dragging them off is an inherently wrong thing to be happening. This ass nonchalantly pulls a gun on the closest person and waits for him to back off. The girl stops struggling when she sees the gun flashing around, and in the meantime, I've finally gotten up to where this guy is, with the girl, and have pulled MY gun on him, going into 'cop' mode.

"Drop the gun and the girl and put your hands in the air!"

He complies. I realized that I overestimated the camaraderie between cultists as a gunshot rang out. Pain ripped through my shoulder as I jerk forward on top of the cultist I was pointing my OWN heat at. I impulsively pulled the trigger, a shot from the USP bursts through this guy's neck, just before I dropped it.

I thought the crowd was getting frantic before shots rang out.

People were going everywhere, and the girl had disappeared. I look behind me, where the shot had come from that caused me to lose track of where my gun was, and I couldn't figure out the source. I crouched as low as I felt safe both for cover and to see if I could find my gun. (apparently, these people had no intention of controlling the crowds OR taking care of anyone that wasn't a target, thankfully.

A little while later, I found the other man's gun, having been kicked off several meters by near-frenzied patrons of the club. I leaned down to pick it up and was suddenly knocked forward by a frightened clubber.

You'd best hurry up and finish that story, before tonight comes and robs you of that chance.
