I made it into the clearing, made a quick turn and threw what I picked up. I quickly looked away and covered my ears as best as I could. As if from a far distance I heard the cries of pain from the monster. It was staggering in confusion as it's world went soundless and sightless.

I didn't hesitate but took careful aim and emptied the clip on the beast. After taking most of the shots it fell and I reloaded and put another clip into it just to be sure. After the beast stopped moving I made my way back to Josh's body to see what other things remained that I could use.

If he had gotten into this area, I was sure that there would be a way over the wall nearby. However, I was going to be as prepared as I could manage before continuing towards the boat.

I managed to find his handgun, the four extra clips for it, another flashbang, the suction cup climbers and the H&K UMP. I had never fired a submachine gun before and could only hope that if it was necessary I could handle it.

I went back to the wall and used the climbing equipment to get over it. Once on the other side it was strange to hear nothing but the waves crashing against the beach.

I slowly made my way back to the docks.

Unfamiliar weapons are always dangerous and difficult - no matter how well made they are.

I'll take Unfamiliar over Nothing. "Well, this giant monster *will* kill me. Playing around with this thing *may* kill me. I'll take my chances with the weapon."

No arguments on that point.

Yeah, the bruises from it healed eventually. Wasn't quite expecting a gun like that to have that sort of kick.

When firing any kind of automatic you need to pull it as tight against you as possible, otherwise i will drum on you and beat you up.

Yeah, yeah. I now know Rambo has no basis in reality.

*sniff*... Rambo's just like the tooth fairy, or santa claus, or the smurfs... You find out it's not real in your sensitive latter teenage years...

Anyways, back to the tale.

I made my way along the shore towards the ship that would hopefully get me off the island of horrors I found myself on. I could feel the blood running down my back from my wound and the exhaustion of the past few hours was starting to catch up to me.

As I approached the docks I could see the ship sitting off the dock about 100 yards away. I could also see the two cat creatures wandering around near the boathouse. I knew I wasn't able to swim the distance to the boat and the only other boats were the rafts in the boathouse. I had no easy choice and I decided to put my trust in the new guns I had picked up.

I radioed the assistant to update her and asked her to be another set of eyes for me. She confirmed that there were only two creatures and told me to be careful. I readied the guns and prepared to hopefully ambush them.

This is the point that I found out that submachine guns did not work as I thought I did. My first burst managed to hit one of the cat creatures, but then proceeded to climb upward and to the side. The only other thing I hit was a poor bird trying to fly away from the noise. The kick of it pounded into me painfully.

The second cat creature started towards me. I didn't want to try a auto burst again, so I switched it to three round burst mode. I aimed and fired, but this time I started out aiming for the knee. At least one of the rounds hit because it went down. At that point I gave up on the UMP and threw it aside and pulled a pistol and moved towards the water.

I quickly put three more rounds into the second creature and took aim at the first one. I think they were starting to learn because it was moving in the opposite direction instead of attacking again. I was not sorry to see it go.

There is not much to tell after that. I managed to get out to the boat, climbed on board and headed out away from the island. I found a sat phone on board and phoned back to the offices. We headed towards the mainland using GPS.

8 hours later I was in a debriefing room explaining to the best of my ability what happened. They also questioned me for an extended time regarding the assistant. Somehow I managed to lose track of her once we reached the mainland.

Let me ask a question that the others seemed to have forgotten, what happened to the island? Critters like that are not the best thing to leave running loose. If they got off the island, snuck onboard a passing frieghter and hid, rather than kill the crew, think of the damage they could do in say, New York or Los Angles.

Officially, I believe the island was the site of joint war games between the US and a few other countries. I think all that was left on the island when they were done was rock and craters.

However, I never had the desire to go back there and confirm that official statement. For all I know they went there and attempted to capture them and what you suggest could happen at any time.
