Ok, so where did I leave off...

Right, with time running out I had Dr. Chase fly the chopper over to the upper deck. We arrived in time to see the aftermath of the battles; the tower having collapsed because of the LAW, etc.

En route there I attached a Quick Rope to the chopper, and I, well, quick roped to the deck. I ordered Celeste up the rope with Molly and told Ben to grab on; but he was determined to get the evil fuck's body. While I waited on the deck for him, explosions rocked the Platform; time had run out.

An Inferno had sprung up between me and the rope; Dr. Chase was having a hard time holding the chopper still. I snuffed it out with a small explosion (forcibly blasting the air away from the fire snuffs 'em out) and made it back to the rope just as Ben came, leaping over flames and collapsing decking, and grabbing the rope just in time for us to escape.

Well I alway thought some of you were a bit looney this just proves it. Before anyone gets upset I have been reading Nodwick and the like for a while.

And you wonder why we have such a hard time convincing people these things are real.

Besides, Gary Gygax is a demon sent to earth to blind children to the reality of monsters and magic.

I dunno about that Ron. I imagine that Pen and Paper RPGs actually help prepare people for that possibility. Well, when done right anyway. Think of all the things you can learn, skills you can develop while playing. Most of them would be very useful when dealing with SupNats.

Except that Gary Gygax created Dungeons and Dragons, a fantasy-based rpg system based on Tolkien's fantasy world. Quite heavily based on it. Are we going to start bashing Tolkien, then, for thinking up monsters and fantasy races?

Should we bash Poe for writing horror stories and poetry? (Or being one of the bases for modern "goth" poetry, which was no fault of his own?)

The fact of the matter is, we can't just point and say that people are blind because of rpg's, video games, horror movies, and whatnot. That's about the same as blaming gangsta rap for the Columbine shootings all those years ago. People are blind because they want to be blind. The movies, the games, all those things are healthy escapes for them...

And to be honest, some of us enjoy those healthy escapes even when we know the truth.

That's it, I'm casting a Magic Missle on Ron.

You take... Four points of damage Ron.

And if you wanna blame someone for messing with people's perceptions of vampires and such, blame White Wolf, not good old Gary Gygax. At least D&D is set in a midevil fantasy relm, not modern life, and Vampires and Werewolves are always evil in D&D.

Yeah, tha's worse. Any of those modern horror games just desentize people to the idea that there are real monsters out there. That stuff by White Wolf, that Urban Arcana stuff or that Beyond the Supernatural game are all horrible. I don't know how many times I've had people tell me I play too much of that stuff when I try to convice them that it was a vampire that just took their daughter.

Actually I knew a guy that was into RPGs an he had siler plated dice and some wooden dice as well, and he found both very useful when he came across a real Vampire. He didn't kill it but he did get away, even he laughs about it.

Into the sunset . . . for the others

Post by Celeste Darken »

You people are speaking a different language. Now I know why I nnever took part when my brothers got their friends together. So . . . back to reality.

Once we were safely within the helicopters, there were relatively few setbacks. Some turbulence and injuries . . . explosions . . . nothing too extraordinary. KonThaak looked bad and seemed worse when I approached, so I stayed away. Shepard had been pulled in my Ben, and I would not hurt him.

Molly didn’t seem to feel my chill as everybody else does, and she gladly sat by me. I have to admit, I have a soft spot for children. I am glad to say I have never hurt any . . . under Boaz’s control or out. She chatted merrily with me, and I forgot the ills of the world while doing so. She made promises and I made promises.

And then we flew off into the proverbial sunset.

Of course, I don’t do well with the sun, allegorical or not. So in spite Molly’s pleading, I jumped free once there was land beneath us, while there was still plenty of night left and before the chopper had even come close to landing.

I don’t mind hundred foot drops into pitch blackness.
Death isn’t a state of nothingness. It’s a journey. What path are you forging?

I see I'm not the only one that reads Order of the Stick. Nice to know. Escapism is nice, and it does help keep the mind sharp. As for too many RPG's, I definately know the difference between reality and fantasy... though my life reads like a fantasy novel.

Y'know what I find funny? Mr. Gung-ho-with-his-guns ready-to-fight-and-protect Ben Holister couldn't shoot Shepard. Just knowing what type of person he was...I would've done it. Me, the violent-only-when-he-has-to-be peace-mongering druid. Me, the guy who gets squeamish about unnecessary, excessive violence, and tends to get sick at the sight of peoples' insides.

I would've made damned sure there was no way he'd ever hurt anyone again. Problem with that is, if I were in Holister's shoes, and had been given the opportunity, I probably would've been killed by the other three guys...

So Ben, you still have no recollection of what transpired around you when you were Death? ... How would you like to try some hypnotic memory stimulation after the mess in Miss is cleaned up?

We'd have to take a number of safety precautions, of course, in case your alter-ego tried to make a solo comeback, but I don't see a situation where that could be permanent. If you're willing to give it a shot, we may be able to get *you* to tell us why Shepard had magic at his disposal.

Except that D&D isn't based on Tolkien... beyond the halflings, there's really not that much...

Tolkien did not invent the word "ranger" after all.
