And that reason would be... what?

GS, you need to stop with the partial answers. This is part of what is getting under people's skin around here.

Sorry, I thought the reason was clear. I posted the mask's ability in my halloween post.

Oh ok. I am sorry, these treads get so long and overlap so much sometimes linking to another thread my help. You have to remember that not everyone remembers what you do, so where you think you are being clear, they think you are being evasive. This true for all of us.

GS, how about some simple answers:

Do you know who is responsible for the crimes we have been accusing you of?

Is it you?

Do you have an alibi?

Can you offer proof to back up any of the above?

Inquiring minds need to know Kolya.

I've been involved in the end of too many Society members to want to rush in . . . and since GS isn't helping himself, some research is necissary.

He really needs to come forward though.

Funny how doing something "stupid" is simply a matter of perspective.

Actually, there's "personal stupid" and "universal stupid". Personal stupid is just something you feel stupid doing, even though it might not look like you're actually being stupid. Universal stupid is what is deemed stupid to society as a whole, not just in your personal viewpoint.

The problems here come about in that what one society deems as stupid another does not. Now I will agree that there are somethings that most societies deem as stupid, yet remember there is always an exception to every rule.

The Mayans did some pretty masochistic things to themselves... Dunno if it involved needles and eyeballs, but it did involve things like ripping off their own fingernails and drinking the blood that flowed there from.

The Mayans also believed that a woman could/should only get pregnant if they swallowed a piece of...oh, what was it... I think she was supposed to swallow a sliver of sapphire, or something like that. Some kind of precious stone.

Of course, they knew women could get pregnant without swallowing that precious stone, but they believed these children to be devil-babies, and they killed them immediately.

Mayans aside. Ron is still correct.

Obviously I add that doing nothing about someone who has fused with supernatural evil entity is equally stupid.

They weren't bad people, overall, Ron... Just had very strange ways of going about things. The Spaniards tried introducing Catholicism to curb the wild bloodletting... They converted to a man almost overnight, and the Spaniards felt very good about themselves...until the next time they visited. They were then aghast to find the Mayans had labeled Jesus as a god, the bloodletting was still going on, only now they were also nailing each other to crosses to honor the pain Jesus went through.

The visit the Spaniards made after that, the Mayans had completely vanished.

Their gods needed blood for their magics. Not something that was just a Mayan thing either. In cultures from all around the world, you can see where blood sacrifice made some part of some ceremony.

We view it with horror now, but that is simply because as a people, our cultural mores have shifted and evolved. Back then it was simply business as usual. Blood sacrifice doesn't necessarily make them evil, they just have different beliefs.

I hate to say it, but he's right. The whole culture was deemed "savage" by the outsiders that eventually took away their land from them and killed them off themselves.

The Spanish claimed that they were doing it in the name of God, but lets be frank. It was all for gold and glory.

Someone people claim to have been to El Dorado.

Some people claim to have been abducted by aliens.

I know some from both categories. It's as hard to believe them as it is to not.

Though I am not sure about Buddhism, I think near about all other divine entities have been use as a reason to kill another. All of them felt that they were blessed by "God" and sought to destroy the infidels or purge the disbelievers from their midst.

Prime examples - Crudades, Spanish Inquasition, suicide bombers, Muslim Jihad

Depends on whether or not you count the Tao as a "divine entity"... I don't think most Taoists do, but there are researchers and such that do...and I know that branch offshoots of Taoism--such as Taoist Christians--do.

It's not as widespread as Christian Buddhism, but it is out there... Christians who've studied Lao Tzu's and Chuang Tzu's teachings, and embrace and coordinate them with the teachings of Christ. They believe the Tao is God...
