I agree. I think we need to be selective about who to maximise value and minimise charlatannery.

Some times it's nice not being on top of the world.

We can't afford to be selective - any day now Hell is going to break loose - literally.

We need lots of people able to stand up and help out if that happens.

So selecting individuals one at a time isn't going to cut it.

The world needs to recognize the thread and we need to be able to recruit people for monster hunters the way they do LEOs or soldiers.

Which is a selective process. In some cases an extremely selective process.

And requires a degree of formality and legitimacy that will not be easily formed with hacks and charlatans distorting everyone's view.

I am no where near dealing with a lot of threats that can happen at any time. I have urgency to build the capability but ask Russian submariners what happens when you try to rush something into operations when it simply is not ready. A lot of ground lost in the blink of an eye.

The urgency is there, but turning up too much heat just burns the food it does not really cook it.

The heat's already been turned up - I'd just like to put the pot on the stove instead of having raw meat.

Wow . . .that was a horrible analogy.

The charlatans and what not already exist - cluing in the general public if anythign will make it harder for them because less people will be dumb enough to fall for it.

I think the only difference is time frame.

We need to select those who could educate the general population effectively. We need to be selective when looking for those people. We need to find those that can effectively educate the population in way that marginalises the charlatans and the crackpots without giving them a ground to breed on. I understand they are here now. I have taken many out myself, but if we are not careful, they will become a problem as big as any other, or at least such a distraction that the real problems go unchecked.

In many situations speed will see you through. I do not think this is one of them. Time is not on our side one way or another. I rather die doing my best, rather than just dying tired.

Kolya is right in that if we rush headlong into trying to inform everyone, it would do more harm than good. But I can also tell you there are more people out there who do know the truth, and are doing what they can to both spread the word and prepare.

True, we need someone new who could reach people, and explain things in a reasonable fashion.

Can't we just kill the charlatans as they appear til they learn it isn't safe enough to be profitable?

I typically prefer discredit, expose and humiliate myself -unless they are actively, intentionally doing harm.

Who knows it could if done right turn them into true believers, and then they could prove useful? But I wouldn't hold my breath on that.

Couple of stage magicans - commedians.

They do a lot of "how it's done" style magic.

I really love the routine with the cigarette.
