The Library is now open

Post by GhostSpider »

I hope everyone has their Obertine library cards. Yep, everyone can thank the Obertine Brotherhood for the donation of their Rome branch to the Lazlo Society. If anyone is interested in checking something out, please contact me. However, for security reasons the library will shortly be moved.

The traitorous dogs have paid in blood. It is the first in the many payments that are due.

Well, what can you find out for me about ressurection? Especially if the would be recipient doesn't have a body anymore.

Well Bert, i'll take a look for you, but as far as I know, you need a body for a resurrection. Otherwise you are SOL.

You don't want a resurrection, you want a re-posession. I'd say try finding a comatose, or PVS. I think resurrection isn't possible.

There are supposedly methods to bring a person back from the dead without the need for their body. But most of the ones I have heared about still require a body, or two as a sacrifice. For most here I don't think they would like the idea of the trade off. Particularly as the bodies to be sacrificed are normally young children.
Is that the method you were talking about Belladrox? As I don't think anyone here would go for it.
There are other methods but they require some very powerful artifacts, and some of those are suspect as well.
You can find answers in the Dark places.

There is also the Golem method, in which one binds a spirit (willing in some cases/versions, unwilling in others) into a golem... This grants them some limited amount of life.

Not limited in length or duration, but rather, limited in quality... Their senses of touch, smell, and taste are drastically diminished from what they once were...

There's also the theory of creating a body from scratch, but such a feat requires a helluvalot of energy, and might as well be impossible for most of us here...

GS, if you could get those books on necromancy checked out for me, or get them scanned in and sent over to me through e-mail (even better), I'd appreciate it.

Bert, PM me all the details on this resurrection. I think...

We...

Alright, we think that we have found something. Still, I need to know the specifics.

KT, i've got two books for you that i'm going to send by an extremely reliable courier. You should have them by this evening.

Sweet. When are they due back...? Fortunately, Lex just got one of those all-in-one printers, so not only will I be using it to scan in pics of Julian, I'll also use it to scan in those books... ^^

Be careful who you invite to the ritual, I'm not sure we want to be throwing souls into bodies with someone who has an extra person floating around in their head.

None taken KT. As for the books, keep them as long as needed. I need to find a permanent home for the library anyway.

Are you looking to do a central location for all of them, or are you thinking about spreading them out over a few places Ghost?

Set it up in multiple locations. Seriously, ever heard of the Ashburnham house fire? Look it up sometime, countless priceless documents were lost in a single fire. Never put all your eggs in a single basket, that's what I've learned in my years.
Put everything into what you're doing, use everything you've got, or I'm afraid you won't live to regret it.

I'm thinking a central location would be my best option, Shadow.

I'd be more than happy to donate some books to your center Michael (I plan on expanding my collection anyway  ). However, some of these books do not belong in the hands of neophytes. Take for example one of those necromancy books I sent to KT. I had no problem sending it to him as he has the experience to know how to handle and use it with care. Of course, it helped that I have met KT and that I trust that he knows what he is doing.

If they are one of a kinds - make copies.

If they are the sort of thing that might make evil stronger - burn it now.

Problem with Burning some of those books is two fold. First off some of them if you Burn them there is a chance you could release something that shouldn't be. Second sometimes they also have info on how to deal with and beat certain baddies.
Do I think just anyone should have accses? Hell no.

I can see it now:

"Hello, I would like your most thorough guide on how to become an evil overlord, please."

"Certainly sir. You ARE at least 18, and have no criminal record, correct?"

"Well, there was that one incident that caused a major city to explode..."

"Sir, it goes a lot faster if you just say yes and no."

"Oh, well in that case, 'Yes', and 'No'"

"All right, here's a loaner for now, and your information will be sent to you in two to three days. Thank you."

No one here is anywhere NEAR this stupid, so keeping dangerous information safe will obviously be taken care of, Shadow.

*chuckles* Well spoken, Angel... Nevertheless, Shadow's concerns are still valid. All of them.

Well the arcanist on the board can meet and go over the matierial together and decide what needs to be locked away from everyone and what needs limited access and by whom. It would be a fair way to make sure no one erson will make a decision behind anyones back and possible cause problems later.

I would like copies, digital if possible to secure in my archives, along with all of the other tomes that I have copied and stored.

Alright everybody, just calm down. Now, let me make one thing perfectly clear, the library is mine and I will decide its disposition. I am making it available solely to those members of the Society that I know and /or trust. New members will most certainly not be allowed access to the original texts. I leave the disposition of the digital copies to the members who make them. Now, as answer to your individual questions and concerns:

Ron- I learned my lesson the last time I burnt down a library. It's just never a good idea. You simply don't know what you may unleash.

Kei- I brought the collection with me (yes, it is all in that one chest  ), and you are welcome to make digital copies. Just give me a bit to specify you as one of the people allowed to handle the chest. I'll also need to show you how to use it.

Angel- Work on sharpening up the sarcasm and you will go far.

Michael-Just give me a time and place. I'll teleport in with the collection and we can go from there.

Shadow-Valid points, all.

Be careful scanning things. You don't want to put evil into a digital format. We've dealt with that already. It was an episode of Buffy too.

Excellent point there Bert. Maybe I should finish cataloguing the collection before I start releasing the texts for digital copying. :?

so, how 'new' is a new member that wouldn't be allowed access to your texts?

He should probably need senior trustworthy members to vouch for him. And not just people they knew before, it'd have to be impartial members who have met him since his joining.
