Learned Something New Today

Post by Ron Caliburn »

I stumbled across a reference to an extinct type of bird called a Haast's Eagle. Apparently this thing was the largest bird of prey that ever flew. It's talons were comperable to a tiger's claws and it preyed on 400 pound Moas as little as 500 years ago. It was the only flying creature ever to be the apex predator of an ecosystem.

All and all, a real scary critter.

Fosile and bone evidence only locates it in New Zealand, btu I'm thinking what if some of these things got across the Pacific and survived to this day. Every now and then there's a report of a big bird of prey trying to take off with a person. Could it be one of these or something even more far out?

I've never run across a large aviator predator in my travels so I really cant coment on those rumors. I have heard from plenty of locals though about stories of big birds swooping away with small animals, pets, and even small children, but I take those few wild stories about full grown adults being stolen away with a grain of salt. But Im glad your seeing this throught the eyes of a "cryptoz" rather than the immediate claim of monsters for a change. There may be real hope for you yet.

Personally I'd beleive it. Prehistoric animals have lived among us for centuries. I mean I forgot the name for its ancestor but look at the alagator, a predator so perfect it had to devolve, they started something like 60 feet long full grown. I think thats where most 'dinosaurs' went, they just evolved or devolved, can you just imagine what would happen if the genes of these animals somehow got triggered to create a 'throwback'.
To find the truth one must seek the light within the darkness.

D, I believe in science - but I don't think it's got all the answers yet. Sometimes it's necissary to rely on an older knowledge.
