At the time, yes, a good bowman was a superior warrior to a good musketman.

However, it took 10 years to train a good bowman and 10 days to train a good musketman.

And that explains why the English kicked so much tail during the late medieval period.

Incidently, some of the british folks who mustered in 1940 to help protect britain from the expected German invasion brought longbows or pikes with them

I'm doing what I do best right now. Cleaning out the Blight. Once I feel I'm back in shape, I'e got one outstanding engagement on my calander and then I'll have a clean slate to taking part in the big problems again.

They should change the name of the thread to "Pendragon's Hit List!". For some reason that sounds like it would invoke more fear in others. I know that respect is good, but I would prefer to be feared.

Fear may be overcome; but is it not fear that keps us alive. Is it not fera that keeps us from doing the stupid things in our lives that would otherwise be deemed reckless.
Is it not fear that makes us repect the punishment for our actions?

And is not courage not acting without fear, but acting in spite of it?

Fear is natural, sure, and the good thing to have. Maybe overcome the wrong word? Maybe I should said managed?

No, not necessary that fear makes you respect punishment. Respect for authority means you understand you will be punished, and accept it.

Courage is not in spite of fear, courage is managing fear.

Then I suppose we hear the same metaphors differently over here.

But the premise is the same. Most debilitating treactions, including fear, are good for us, though in small doses. To live without fear, makes you foolish, reckless, and a Republican.
