Makes bout as much sense as The British navy being sent to Wyoming or gun control in LA. But thats just my opinion.

Yea, but then again not a lot makes sense in our lives.

But having such contacts makes unofficial/back-channel communications possible, and it is on the back-channel and out of the public eye that much of the nitty gritty is handled.
