Try, Try, and Try Again

Fingers raced over vials and beakers as things were snatched from their resting place and quickly mixed together. Wide eyes looked on with anticipation as the hands and brain did the work needed to reach the goal.
The scientist went through the trouble of making a electro statically charged environment to keep it as sterile as possible. The walls glistened with spilled and exploded matter of all forms. Some slimy substances running down the wall and some bits of crystal like material juts outward up to half a foot long for some parts.
Testing everything over and over made everything else special, in such a way as it just couldn't be infallible.
A quick slap and a digital ding rang through the air. The scientist quickly shot to the roof of his lab which was also mother earth in her finest form. The grass was soft and smelled exceptional. A breeze running over the hillside felt like silk against his skin, his eyes shut against the sun's glowing rays, he begins to turn himself into a vapor like mist.
His body slowly loses its form, his eyes the last to go, He tinges the air around his vapor-like body with an odd purplish-green mixture. The pack on his belt bursts into a ball of energy appearing to grow and shrink as it turns into mist and combines with the vapor cloud.
Suddenly, looking from the horizon towards the scientist's dealings, an explosion is seen. A mushroom cloud at least two hundred yards wide rises from above the laboratory. A shockwave dashes outward from the epicenter of the blast and turns every right angled object in its path parallel to the ground.
The air lays quiet as the mushroom cloud shrinks and dissipates over the hours. The area lay quiet, nothing moved but an energetic breeze rushing over the hillside.
