Our Exciting Fourth

Well, Hannah’s been badgering me to start this up. I might as well, too.

Rose would be coming in about twenty minutes; it had been agreed upon by all that she would drive us there. That way, there was less chance of something going wrong. I had put a smidgeon of rouge on my cheeks and was just putting the finishing touch on outlining my lips with lipstick. I don’t know the color; Hannah picked it out for me. I’d ask her later.

I was brushing through my hair when I heard the faint sound of an SUV drive up to the curb; its radio was playing Loreena McKennit’s “Mummers’ Dance” rather loudly.

Rose. It had been prearranged for my benefit.

I fit a clasp at the back of my neck to my hair, dabbed a little perfume to my neck and wrists, and grabbed my staff. “Rose is here,” I knocked on the bathroom door.

“I’m comin,’” she answered brightly. It was her first Fourth of July out of the compound. It was my first Fourth of July since becoming a human.

It was a celebration for all of us. We stowed my staff in the back and Rose opened the car door and shut it after Hannah and me.
We’d be picking up Angel next.

“Is that supposed ta be music?” Hannah asked as we drove up. I was betting her eyes were wide as golf balls as Rose left to knock on the door.

I didn’t reply, trying to figure out the answer myself . . . it sounded so familiar. The very house seemed to swaying to . . . the sound. “It’s Metallica,” I said finally. “Justice For All.” Hannah hadn’t heard of them. But the small, slender woman was cheery enough and answered all of Hannah’s questions with determined friendliness.

“Is Concrete Angel your real name?”

“No. If it sounds stupid you can call me Susan.”

“Is Will comin’ too?”

“No. He’s . . . away right now.”

“How old are ya . . .? How old is Will . . .? What’s your favorite color . . . .?”

I smirked to myself. So this was living.

I had thought it would be a good idea to get everyone out to enjoy the day.
For the most part everyone did have a good time, with a few minor snags here, and there.

I took Molly in my car and met them there. I wanted something nice and armored around me, and I wasn't going to leave myself defenseless. Well, less defended most people would say. When given the option I take the vehicle that can shrug off a rocket attack.

Bert, you’ll confuse readers. That was after we went to pick the others up.

Since when has chronological order ever mattered around here?

They're built like tanks to begin with. After I'm done armoring them, well, you can imagine.

You know, Ei, I WAS wondering what that stuff Rose was playing actually was. I forgot to ask when you guys grabbed me.

Regardless of who got there when, when we all met, it felt like something was finally normal for me. DC with the grill (I kept teasing Bert all day by calling him "ol' duck and cover"), Ei and Rose just sitting there talking, the girls playing...it was really nice. Hell, I even joined in (Ei and Nat joined in later). After a while, I was feeling so good, even Ei didn't have to remind me to not curse. (I did get a little something to drink while she wasn't looking, though.)

Hannah was really sweet, and I almost felt like I was "big sister for the day" the way we all got along. I totally forgot how much fun some of those kid's games were. Even hide-and-seek (Nina's idea). But I still say that the funniest sight was watching Hannah shove those dogs in her mouth. God, I almost bust a gut from that one!

I just want to say, guys, that We3dnesday was completely unforgettable for me, and to thank you. Also, I'm sorry about the crap in the RV.

Whoops, my bad... I guess I neglected to give her a proper education on music, both classical and modern, when she was here... I guess I was also a little more careful what I listened to, and when. o.O

Guess it also doesn't help that I normally only listen to music in the bedroom, of which she respected our privacy...

Anyway, I'm real glad to hear y'all had a good fourth. ^_^

You popped in Ron's RV?

Well, at least you were not over run by rats and dogs in it like I had been once upon a time. Guess that Ron finally extricated them all from the inner workings.

And I thought that Natasha was with you all.

And give me Metallica any day.

And that is all.

That was Khavik's doing, right?

If I get the time I will share my side of the story.

1) Yes, she was there, she joined in on a couple games.

2) Please do, the more the merrier, Nat.

3) Don't be nasty, I was just having some problems. I didn't "poop" in the van.

I grilled up a storm. BBQ'd Chicken Breast, Sausage Patties, Burgers, Hot Dogs. Ears of Corn (Too bad I couldn't get Jersey corn. *Sighs*)

What's so special about Jersey corn? It's accent? 8)

I grilled up a couple, they were so damned expensive and the cuts weren't that good. I only grabbed a couple for the people I knew *loved* steak, like Natasha.

Thanks

I'm especially fond of the chicken, especially when making a lot of the other meats like Beef and Pork.

I would like to thank Bert for dealing with the grill, you did a wonderfull job on all of the food.
I am glad everyone had a good time, save for Angel's little Nightmare episode. Does it always get that Bad Angel?

Someone sent me a  video with the subtitle throughout "A Game of Chicken?" Need to try to track this sick-o down.
