It happens.

At least we can be reasonably certain this lake didn't evaporate - there was ice found in what used to be the lake.

Maybe that fissure might tie us in to the Hollow Earth discussion?

No problem for updating the link.

As for the ice and crack in the earth, perhaps the foundation was a softer rock type that the lake dissolved through. The water could now be in an underground lake or river.

I beleive hte article sites tectonic forces as a probable cause - but it could be a karst topography.

Chile has some significant karst as far as I know but I am not very familiar with the geography and geology of the country at all.

I am sure it would have been mentioned in the article though.

So, there our are scientific possibilites - what are the other options? Some giant demon frog drinking all the worlds water?

You know Ron, i'm actually familiar with that legend.

So both of you have been reading up on Aboriginal myths?

Actually one of Ed's friends is an arcanist who researched obscure end of the world legends. We stayed at his place for awhile and I got in to alot of discussions with him. The demon frog one was one of his favorites.

All right then, how do you get rid of a giant frog? And don't say a giant french chef.

Hey bor dee shpear dor dee bork bork bork!

The frog-eating yeti are harmless. Unless you are a frog. Unfortunately, the frog-eating yeti are the smallest of the yetis, too. That' swhy you need a giant one.

I just beleive that any show that portrays monsters as cute and amusing is doing a real disservice to the survival of the human race by supressing the fight or flight instinct that most people should have when confronted by such critters.

It also makes it harder for us to be taken seriously when we try to warn the world of the very real and adangerosu monsters lurking in the cities and in the woods.

Oh. I'm sorry, I thought it was the muppets themselves you didn't like. That does make sense, now that you mention it.
