Wanted to give everyone an update. I have found some potential links and have asked a trusted friend to travel to Norway to do some additional research from archives there. He is an elderly gentleman and his parents immigrated from the region which makes him better suited for the work than I would be. His flight left this morning and hopefully there will be good news soon.

Nothing to report so far. He has found some interesting things, but nothing that is certain at this point.

As for me, I am spending my days cleaning up and recovering what I can from an internal server fire for one of my clients. This client seems to be having a lot of back luck lately with their computers.

I got a call early this morning with the news I was hoping for. My friend has found information about the origins of the tome. It seems that he was a mystic of some sort that was alive during the start of the Yngling dynasty. He is known to have collected and wrote a book of power runes around the middle and later years of his life. The book collected all the knowledge of runes known at the time including how to restore the dead to life and bring the gods to the mortal plane. However, the tome was lost in the 10th century about the time the Vikings moved into France and became known as Normans.

Oddly enough he foresaw the time when his book would be used for great evil and left clues how to destroy it when such a time had come. He believed that once that point came to be, the tome was no longer needed here upon this world. We are still working on the details of the what the clues are and where to find them, but it is good news to hear that there is a way to rid the world of this book.

Ok, here is the information we have now. It seems like the clues were left on three artifacts that were given to the clan head at the time. One of these are supposed to be Beowulf's sword, Hrunting. The second artifact we believe is an amulet that he left for the king of the nation where the grendel was. The third is a shield that was last seen in the possession of Erik the Red in Greenland.

We believe that the sword is still more or less where the legend states, buried underwater in a cave. The amulet, is possibly one of the artifacts currently on tour with a museum display. As for the shield, we are not sure what happened to it. We are looking into the matter more.

It appears to be the case, but with this information comes the realization that this is not happening anytime soon. This kind of thing is going to take time to figure out. At least I can find some comfort in knowing the tome is somewhat safe from cultist hands.

As you said, the trail is 1000 years cold most likely. I am going to have to try to piece together everything there is regarding Beowulf the legend and the truth behind the legend. If I can establish facts in the legend, I might find a trail to pick up.

I am also going to have to start following the history of Erik the Red and his descendants. I am fairly sure that the shield would not have left his family line, as long as there is a living descendant I may have a trail to follow.

In the meantime, there is other work to be done. It is past time I get back to it.
