I think my research is starting to point me in the correct direction regarding the Cult of Hela. Over the past few days, uncontrollably for the most part, I have been seeing this creatures circling me. Normally if I go into a crowd of people they go away, but return when I am alone. I did not understand what it was until last night, and I believe now it was a Banshee. My gifts must be growing.
Last night, I decided to visit the graveyard near the house where all of this started for me. I knew that the moth man was gone and that I did not feel anything else in the area. Just a precaution I left to go out there around 2 pm. My goal was to get names and dates from the headstones to cross reference with genealogies of people in the region. Hoping to find a link from the past cultists to the current ones.
My work took a bit longer than I expected and by the time I was most of the way back to the van it was dark. My spirit friend was suddenly back again, and soon I realized that another presence was nearby. I pulled my gun and picked up my pace. Before long, I could hear the feet of something running in the woods along me. At that point, I knew I had to get out of the woods and into the open area around the van if not into the van itself.
I could sense it closing in and I broke into a full run. I zigzagged through the trees, making it have to constantly change pace to keep up with me. Now I could plainly hear it crashing through branches and underbrush. I could see the van ahead of me and I pulled out a new burst of speed. Suddenly it everything was still, both the creature behind me and the spirit thing around me was gone.
I stood there for a few minutes looking back into the woods catching my breath. I started to relax when I suddenly saw the spirit again and felt it's cry of agony. I then heard a thump on the roof of the vehicle and a horrible growl/snarl. I dove to the side just in time to avoid the creatures dive at me.
I spun and fired two quick shots off. The bullets seemed to have no effect, and I grabbed for one of the clips of silver bullets I carry. It was a creature about the size of a wolf, but looked wrong. It was like it's skeleton was on the oustide. Before I could think more about it, the creature pounced again for me. I dodged and ran, managing to get the clip in. As it had managed to get turned and was running for me again, I dove behind the van. The creature thudded into the side of it, rocking the vehicle. I backed up and waited for it to come around, and when it did I started opening fire. About a third of the bullets still seemed to bounce off of it, but it reacted this time.
It started running to the side, trying to get out of my fire while approaching. It pounced again and caught me, knocking me to the ground. Luckily, I managed to keep the gun in hand, but I knew there were only two rounds left in it. I quickly fired them and prayed that I would be able to focus my mind. At first it didn't work and I had to kick the thing away from me, then I felt the energy focus and I blasted away.
I managed to win this time, but now the banshee is back and he has brought friends. I think I might have stumbled onto something bigger than I originally thought.
