Strange things are happening on our streets. There have been a string of animal attacks recently, and now the authorities are blaming coyotes. Coyotes?! The attacks mainly target dogs, and several of the creatures have been observed by witnesses behaving very strangely. Just read here:

I think it's clear we're dealing with something else here. There have been a few reports of Hell Hound activity in Minnesota before, and it appears we may be having another epidemic.

Any Hell Hound specialists out there?

I dealt with them once before. Not much to say. Find them, kill them, make sure they are dead, repeat as necessary.

It's a story from mid-December, titled "Coyotes blamed in pet attacks".

Brad Briggs bolted out of his house to break up a bloody street chase between a coyote and his yelping, 22-pound Jack Russell terrier. Shouting and flailing his arms, the barefoot electrical engineer successfully shooed away the coyote from the feisty terrier, Jack.

But instead of immediately retreating into the woods, the coyote savored one last look at Briggs, his wife and their 12-year-old son.

"This animal just stopped in the street, kind of cocked his head and just stared at us," said Briggs, of Eagan. After a long pause, the coyote sauntered between two houses across the street and disappeared into the woods of Patrick Eagan Park.

It goes on to say that there have been at least five attacks on dogs since September, and the authorities are blaming coyotes. But you'll notice in the quote above that the witness never called the creature a coyote, just "this animal." Nowhere in the story does a witness use the word "coyote."

Coyotes will certainly attack and kill dogs, small livestock, and even children. However, coyotes tend to eat whatever they kill. If it was left more or less to rot it likely was not a coyote. And not likely a normal dog, too. Obviously this alone is not going to answer your question, but it might be a start.

I forgot a couple of things about hell hounds.

1) They disappear at dawn. I suggest you use this by not getting into a fight with them so late at night that they can escape when the sun comes up but at the same time fighting them late enough that you can escape when the sun comes up.

2) Silver bullets.
