According to the USA Today dated Jan 20, 2005, hundreds of giant squid are washing up on Orange County, California beaches, creating a scene out of 20000 Leagues Under the Sea. Believed to be Humboldt squid, no one knows why they have suddenly appeared. Beachgoers were advised not to eat them, since they probably have bacteria on them.

Sounds to me like a new underwater predator/sea monster has claimed the area for its territory and is gettng rid of any unwelcome visitors. I'd stay out of the water if I were living in that area.

I wonder what it's got against squid?

I knew I should have taken that SCUBA course.

I've had several encounters with aquatic creatures and being over the years, and did once encounter something in California's waters that could be the cause...

Ever seen Creature from the Black Lagoon? Like that, only twice as big, ravenously hungry and extremely territorial...
