First of all I would like to introduce myself as I am new to the community. My name Ya'acov Asher, I am geologist by trade but a paranormal investigator by hobby. My first experiences with the paranormal began when I was eight years old and was involved in a hit and run car accident. I was lying in my hospital bed, quite literally on deaths door, when I awoke to see the being known as the grim reaper smiling at me for what seemed like five minutes but as soon as I blinked he was gone. From that moment on I've been blessed and cursed with visions of the future. They began as dreams at first but as I progressed into my teenage years my psychic abilities developed to the point where I would have these visions while awake or here peoples surface thoughts or sense their emotions. I also became extremely aware of supernatural evil and could feel its presence like an icy chill in my heart, but enough of my past and on to the reason I have sought out your advice today.

Two weeks ago while supervising the construction of the cities newly approved subway system one of my excavation teams broke through the limestone bed rock and into a huge previously unknown cavern system. At that point we mearly performed a cursory examination of the entrance to these caverns, but from the little ways in I myself explored I can tell you that it is a place of power. I smelled a slight rank to the air and felt very slightly that chill in my heart. We informed the city of this caverns discovery and it was not long before they decided to send in a team of spelunkers to explore this cavern system.

The spelunkers were able to map more than 10 square miles of this wonderous cavern system (the photos they brought back were some of the most beautiful I've seen) before the first strange occurance occured. The team had mangaged that day to proceed about 5 miles into the cavern when they began to feel that they were being watched. At first I mearly thought this was a side effect of being so far away from the outside and enveloped in the kind of darkness one only encounters beneath the earth. The very next day the entire team did not return from their explorations, we waited a day before we sent in a search and rescue team.

They spent 4 days searching the areas that had been mapped before finding a discarded rock hammer in a previously unmapped tunnel, but search as they might they could find no further evidence that day. The very next day they set out with packed provisions to travel as far down the tunnel as they can manage and that is when we lost contact with them as well.

We had not so much as a word from them for 2 days and when we did receive contact from them it was not what we expected. That night while we were closing down operations one of the men in the search and rescue team came wandering out of the cave. He was near catatonic and covered in blood. We have not been able to get him to communicate no matter how much we have tried and I've been unable to understand even the slightest tidbit of his thought, he arrived yesterday.

I am totally at a loss here and feel that I am in well above my head! If you can offer any advice or if there is another member of the society in the area who could lend me a hand I would be severely grateful.

Well, the rash, panic driven answer, would be to seal the caves.

I'd suggest looking into the local history and lore of that area, see if there are any mentions of cave monsters, or really anything about those caves would be a start.

And ye old "get someone sensitive to such things in there".
And if such a person happens to know friends in the "troubleshooting" business, so much the better.

As a seer I know the frustration of darkness. For you to not know what is down in this deep dark cave. Only to see death is tragic. One man surviving, His mind crushed by horrer. Evil seeks darkness. This thing could be many things. An evil earth monster, a dragon defending its layer or some demen. I think Ellie is right, best side on caution. It would probably take a battalion to figure this one out. Unless of course the man regains hes senses.

You might not need to wait for him to regain sanity, if you can find a telepath or some-such. But then, depending on what he saw, the telepath might not come back entirely sane either.

You're right that it could be anything, and most likely those caves are it's lair.

Best case scenario, it's just defending it's turf.

Worst case, you woke something up, and once it decides that no more food is coming to it, it's going to start hunting. Outside the caves.

This evening there was a erie development. The night watchman over the site reported hearing what sounded like strange otherworldly piping or flutes echoing out of the cave and stated that when he went to investigate he saw a stange fog boiling out of the darkness. He promptly turned around and fled the site before contacting me. His quick action is probably the only reason he is still alive.

The catatonic spelunker has begun to come too but as of yet is not able to give us any coherent information. I have sent a request out to an old friend of mine who is a telepath to help in recovery of information.

I took your advise and checked local legends. It seems the native americans that lived in this area told tales of an underground people who whorship a strange and horrible god. The tales state that this civilazation disappeared about 300 years ago when the entrance to their caves caved in during a freak earth quake.

I will be returning to the site once the sun rises but I can say that my dreams have been strange and full of haunting flutes. I have a very bad feeling about this any additional advice would be greatly appreciated. I shall also update you with my report as soon as I return from the site.
