USA Today wrote:Ghost ship: Panama tanker goes off grid, washes up with no crew
A crewless ship washed ashore in Liberia last week, according to NBC News.
The oil tanker, Tamaya 1, reported its last known coordinates April 22 heading toward the Dakar port in Senegal, according to World Maritime News. It was found about 47 miles west of Monrovia May 4
It's unclear what happened to the ship, which was flying a Nigerian flag and found vandalized.
Investigators are looking into a possible pirate attack, and other scenarios, including abandonment.
“Our best bet is that the vessel’s owner might have gone broke and had no money to pay crew members ... and therefore, the crew abandoned the ship," a port authority said to news.com.au.
At least one lifeboat was missing.
If it was pirates they would have taken the crew for ransom or the ship to sell.
If the crew thought they weren't going to get paid, they would have disembarked in a port rather than the open ocean.
So if the crew left, they did it in a hurry and not due to a human factor.
