It took me awhile to figure out where to post this. For the most part it's only tangentially related to the supernatural. It's about my first real year (and really just a semester and a half at that) at school which is rapidly drawing to a close.

I haven't had the same troubles or interesting times that my sister Hannah faced. Not one paranormal occurrence my whole time there. If anything, I guess my arrival was the only 'weird' thing that happened. After all, I was the one who used magic to punish that boy who made fun of Clarity. Something for which I was scolded for, by the way.

Oh, there is a couple of other students who are aware of the supernatural on some level or another. There's Ken, who posts here now. He's one of my friends and he's been having troubles at home. Something I want to help him with and I've been talking to some people who might be able to deal with his situation.

And of course there's Clare but we already know about her.

There is another person there that is aware of the paranormal though. Her name is Madison Kennedy and she's a quiet girl. From when I first arrived on I noticed her staring at me from time to time. Even so, it was a bit of a surprise when after a couple of weeks she approached me and introduced herself.

She's not a psychic. Not really at any rate. She's just a normal teenaged girl that occasionally senses things and really rather wishes she didn't. I seemed odd to her. There was something about me that set the hairs on the back of her neck on end but other than a few personality quirks couldn’t see anything really ‘wrong’ with me. I didn’t and still haven’t told her what I can do but have confessed that I believe in the supernatural. I’ve been thinking about maybe letting her in on the secret.

Afterall, I showed this site to Ken and now he knows. He didn’t believe any of it at first until I made a little demonstration after school one day. And even then it was because I sensed he had a great need and connection to the paranormal.

So I’m not really sure what if anything I should tell Madison. She believes in the supernatural and insists there’s ‘something unusual’ about me. By telling her I might be cementing her belief in the paranormal. That would have good and bad effects as she might increase her abilities but also become more aware of the paranormal and in turn attract its attention. By not telling her, she might become blissfully ignorant but might also be woefully unprepared.

We’ve been toying with the idea of forming a Paranormal club for next year.

What do you guys think I should do?

Well Cynthia, I've always been of the opinion that one of the main reasons the Lazlo Society exists is to educate people about the supernatural.

That doesn't mean opening up ourselves unnecessarily to risk however. So we must always be careful about what we reveal about ourselves to others, especially those of us who have special abilities.

Ultimately, the paranormal is aware of and interested in humanity. It's not just people who know or believe it exists that wind up dragged into some back alley by a hungry predator. She may become slightly more noticible to such things, but she will be better able to defend herself, which I am certainly in favor of.

If she has abilities, or may be on the verge of developing them, it's best not to let her do so blindly. Even kids without abilities still seem to be able to sometimes cause effects if they get their hands on a how to book that has real information in it and decide to give it a whirl. I've had to clean up a few messes made by kids jumping into the deep end and then trying to figure out how to swim.

Usually there isn't enough left of those kids to send back to their parents.

Ideally, it would be best that an adult with similar abilities and experience n how to safely use them provides guidance as she comes into her abilities, if she has them of course. Kids tend to notice and react to things that adults ignore. I remember one day when I had the shop in DC, a man came in with his 5 year old, neither of whom I had met before. While the man was examining my selection of handguns the kid looked at me and said "You're the man that kills the monsters, aren't you?"

Before I could say anything, his father hushed him up and said "There's no such thing as monsters."

The kid nodded, pointed at me and said "Yeah, 'cause he kilt 'em all."

The man, embarrassed started to apologize but I told him that it's a reputation I would be proud to have and offered the kid a sucker.

Cute stories aside, the point is that the supernatural is all around us whether we are aware of it or not and it is certainly aware of us. Dr. Lazlo lived his life trying to teach people it was there and it is something we should be doing too. The masses don't seem to be getting the message so we need to start small and work our way up. We need to consider who we are talking to and provide them the right support to find their way once they find this new reality. For some that's a s simple as giving them a link to Lazlo Society, for others a lot of guidance and nurturing may be necessary.

I kinda gotta go with Dad on a lot of this.

Not knowing and blundering into something is a lot worse than knowing how to deal with something that might come looking for you.

I am sure a lot of things I encountered would have turned out better if I'd known about my abilities and how to use them far earlier than I did. Even now, my abilities are kinda wild, working on the edge of control compared to you or Mel. Yeah I can do things on scales that neither of you can, but simple basic stuff you take for granted is very challenging for me. If I wasn't so good at being out of control but in control at the same time I'm sure I'd be a far worse mess than I am today.

Or in other words, not everyone learns to fly after jumping off the cliff, best to give some people a safety rope to start.
