The Midnight Girl

So I was talking to my brother and he told me about a new supernatural occurance he's heard about recently.

Apparently there's this website that can be accessed irregularly. But if you type in a request at midnight after logging on, then it will come true. Especially if it's one for retribution. There's a catch of course. The demoness you summon who grants you this wish also lays claim to your soul when you die.

The demoness herself is described as being an adorable girl of about eight years of age. Well, except for her eyes. Everyone says she's got weird eyes but no one seems to be able to remember what about them exactly is wrong.

Bro got some friends of his to do some research. There's some interesting back story.

Apparently during the ancient past, like more than fifty years ago. Maybe even more, there was a girl or demon or child prodigy sorceror of some sort. She went all Avenging Angel of Death on some people and when she got home, she was met by a Lord of Hell or something. It basically told her she was too cold for even Hell's standards. So she was to stay in the mortal realm and was forbidden from moving on to hell until figured out what was so wrong with what she'd done.

Oh, and if she didn't obey, her whole family would also be denied their afterlives.

So now she hands out these little voodoo dolls and if you use them, your target is condemned to hell and so are you. Because curses come home to roost or something like that.

Now here's where it gets interesting. The spirits of her family try and stop people from calling on this demoness by resolving issues of the aggrieved before they give that desperate cry for help. So far, they have not had much luck. However, they're not exactly good because they're also the ones that come soul collecting.

So, fact or fiction?

You decide.

What the hell are you playing at, Dai? Linking a dangerous site like that?

I didn't link it.

And I can't edit it out, either!

What disturbs me about this site is if you look up in the top left corner, you'll see who's name was last entered.

Refresh the site every ten minutes or so.

At any time of day or night.

Yeaaaaaaaaaaaaaah, that's creepy. Someone was telling me about this and I had to do everything possible to convince 'em that 'Hey, y'know, maybe that isn't such a good idea, or at least it's in bad taste'.

I really hope he didn't go ahead and do it.

Some names have power enough to resist

What happens to the demoness if she fails to take one of the names? As in, she attempts the kill—but fails? Is the soul of the person who put the name down in the first place still forfeit? Does she pursue later attempts? Can the initial bargainer cancel the contract if he or she so desires?

That depend on the demon

If I had to guess, it would depend upon the demon, I would think. Japan isn’t the only one with these stories. Some demons could potentially continue to attempt the murder, or the justifiable killing, or . . . whatever they want to call it. Or, upon failing, forfeit both souls.

Cancellation, by my guess, would depend on the contract made, whether written or not. But the demon may want reimbursement. I’d also think, once one soul is taken, the next is necessary as well.

My advice is don't try too hard to understand this. If you think you understand how it all works, you could be one step closer to thinking you can get away using it.

Don't mess with infernals. At least not on their terms.

Occasionally, you'll come across an infernal with the potential to be reformed. There is a process to follow when that happens. Sometime I may relate what to do in a case like that.

The “Midnight Girl” shouldn’t be summoned, toyed with, or us

Well said, Daichan.

Perhaps we should discuss such things, if not to finally put the spirit of the poor child and her family to rest, then for the spirits of those who would use her services, and their victims.

Though perhaps those who hate so deeply are not worthy of our concern?

P.S. Daichan, perhaps a discussion on the hazards, and methods of helping infernals reform themselves?

All I can say on the topic of reforming an evil being of any kind is that unless they sincerely want to reform, they won't. So if you are going to try, you have to make sure that it is in their enlightened self-interest to want to see it through.

Once that is in place you can help them, but not before.
