In Thailand, roasted fetuses found stashed in luggage wrote:Bangkok, Thailand (CNN) -- Six roasted fetuses covered with gold for black magic rituals were found in a Bangkok hotel room, and the gruesome discovery led to the arrest of a British citizen Friday, Thai police said.

Chow Hok Kuen, a 28-year-old Briton of Taiwanese origin, faces charges of hiding and covering dead bodies and a jail term of up to a year, police said.

The arrest came after police were tipped off about a website advertising the sale of the fetuses. Police searched Chow's hotel room and found the fetuses packed in a box inside Chow's baggage, they said.

Chow said that he planned to sell fetuses in Taiwan and that one could be worth up to 200,000 Thai baht, or $6,300, police said. He told police that the black magic rituals with fetuses are believed to bring good fortune for businesspeople.

Police say it's unclear where the fetuses came from.

The British Foreign Office confirmed the arrest and will provide consular assistance if necessary.

That’s not even close to “justice.”

Only a year for such a crime? Of course, I suppose that’s because the police probably have no evidence as to whether the man was responsible for the . . . state of the babies. Still, a year seems extremely lenient to me. But then, I freely admit my bias; the evidence points toward him, yet that doesn’t mean he’s guilty.

These are the sorts of people that leave people to think I'm a flammable witch.

Really, who do you pay to cover fetuses in gold?

Roasted and covered with gold. Though the order of operations in this case is purely speculation.

There is probably a plea-bargain in place for him to finger suppliers or accomplices etc...
The news wouldn't mention it to avoid tipping off the people he's fingering.

I'm curious who his potential buyers were. I haven't heard anything else about this story yet, but that's unsurprising.

Sadly, it's easier to move things around the Asian and African (and even some European) markets than the American ones due to less effective oversight. I've seen some disturbing goods in antiquity and medicine shops there.
