Poll Question

Just curious to see what the most selected weapon is. Select your top two.

Primary Weapon of choice & why.

Secondary Weapon of choice & why.

None of the above. I will take my bow and my knives over your firearms at all but the most extreme of ranges.

My swords are my primary weapon, they have never failed me and do not kill anything but what I wish dead, although range does become an issue.

A thrown knife, or a bow is my secondary weapon of choice. Swift, silent, and no more or less deadly than the hand that guides them.

Beowolf & a SPAS.

Obvious reasons.

My .50 sniper's rifle is my overall favorite for several reasons; one Im a qualified sniper so I can make the best use of it, and second anything I shoot with it is not getting back up especially if I pull off a head shot or double cap (head & heart).

My .45 OPSEC is my side arm of choice because it takes the stopping power of my overall favorite calibre handgun and brings it into this decade.

I always am a firm believer in stopping power. If I have to shoot someone, I don't want them getting back up. I don't do warning shots, or " wounding " shots.

Spas - 15 shotgun, high rate of fire combined with easy reloading and stopping power.

Desert Eagle Combat Pistol .50 AE, When you need something dead there is no better weapon than a pistol that can't be stopped by body armor.

Sort of like wasting everyone's time with questions about firearms on a Forum for supernatural investigations? There are many, many, many forums to discuss such things as weapons. There are only a few to discuss supernatural research.

Moreover, you are creating a potential security hazard for board members who answer these polls. You are encouraging the board membership to broadcast, where the enemy can plainly see, what they use and how.

Thus my comment, to suggest that people keep such information to themselves. Or discuss it on more relevant firearms forums.

I understand what you're trying to do here. Nevertheless, I think it ill advised.

This poll doesn't work either.

It's also missing a few options like self loading shotguns (different from Automatics) and Convertible Shotguns (different again) and probably shouldn't include things like machineguns. Also handguns should really be considered back-up weapons.

As for me, I prefer the versatility of a good shotgun and the firepower of an automatic rifle. These days I seem to be using a HK416 with LWSS attached under the barrel when I get to gear up.

Ok future note to self - the polls don't work. The joys of technology.

I invcluded machine guns because our good buddy Bert mastered the art of the " Ma Duce ". Some people have their preference of firearms that vary greatly. I just want to cover the bases. As for those types of shotguns, they were to just fall under the other two.

I agree with the shotgun, with all the versitile ammo ne can get now adays for one, its like a multi-purpose weapon. But I was never too keen on automatic weapons. I know how to use them, I just don't like them.

I like the SPAS, but I prefer the 12 series . . . mostly a style thing over anything practical.

As for the DE in .50AE . . . if that works for you, cool but you wouldn't catch me dead with that combo. The DE has a pretty picky gas system, so you have to keep it very well maintained if you don't want it to jam . . . or blow up in your face. It also isn't very tolerant in variations of ammunition.

No, if I was looking at a high powered handgun, I'd look at a revolver. It's much more robust and much less likely to stop working on you or shoot you between the eyes with a recoiling slide. The .50AE only carries 7 rounds so you're not giving up anything much in ammunition capacity and .454 Casull and .500 S&W Magnum are both significantly more potent than .50AE. Some of the short barrels in .500 S&W are actually fairly light and easy to carry to.

Alternatively, there are a bunch of handguns based around the .223 round that are comparable in muzzle energy to the .50AE but much better in penetrating. A number of these ar able to accept 20 and 30 round magazines.

If you do insist that bigger is better, I have placed an order in for some conversion kits to take an AR-15 and make it fire .50 Beowulf ammunition - which is about 60% more powerful than the .50AE. I figure a little bit of tooling and I could probably smack one of those puppies into one of the AR-15 derived handguns. Most mags for it are only 7 rounds, but I have seen 10 round clips on offer. There's a handgun that will make your Desert Eagle whimper in a corner.

Well you have some valid points there Ron, and I would like to check out the AR-15 mods and ammo you have mentioned. But I will stick with my DE for my back up handgun, it's really more of a personal preference over anything else. But Magnum research has been putting out some impressive new additions for it's DE line, the most notable of which is the new Muzzle Break system they offer. The reduction in recoil it offers is substantial, which leads to much improved accuracy. By they way I don't suppose they make that Beowulf ammunition for the DE do they?

The Beowulf .50 is based off the .50 AE but they are not compatible.

That's a shame. Maybe I can look into making them compatible.....

.50 Beowulf is a full on rifle round - it was designed to basically be the biggest round they could get to feed in an AR-15 without enlarging the magazine well.

Ron: Oh well then it would probably never work as a smaller round then huh?

Cybermancer: I like them just fine, that's why I use recoil compensator's whenever and where ever possible.

I always that a .50 handgun may be considered " overkill " when a .45 will do the job nicely. I saw a .50 DE used once back in the day. Not a pretty sight. The bullet went in the guy's back, and literaly removed his front.

I believe in stopping someone cold with one shot just as much as the next guy, but that was just messy.

9mm is about as lethal as a .45 and penetrates armor better.

In firearms, size isn't everything.

I've seen 9mm work to well at that Ron. First hand I have seen cases where the 9mm slugs went right through the target and they just kept coming. 9mm may have good penetration value, not not must along the line of tissue damage or hydro-static shock value (stoppining power).

Tissue damage and hydrostatic shock are just terms marketers use to sway people who don't understand shot placement.

Look at it this way, you shoot me with your .50 rifle and I'll shoot you with a .223.

You hit me in the hand, I'll hit you in the center mass

Yep, because you understand shot placement . . . now stop being silly with the talk of tissue damage and hydrostatic shock - either a round reaches something vital or it doesn't.
