How Prepared Are We - Werewolves & Shapeshifters

This is a subject that I consider myself an expert on, then I got to reading more on this matter and discovered I only know a drop in the pervebial bucket.
I discovered that there are more than just werewolves out there; there are shapeshifters of every possible shape, size, and origin.
How prepared are we truly to deal with this possible threat?
I am looking for mythlogy, personal experiences, meothods of recognizing shapeshifters, their behaviors, physiology, habits, strengths, weakness, and strategies in confronting these elusive and cunning creatures.

So called "true" lycanthropes are easy to detect, as are most shapeshifters if you have the eyes to see. The shock of seeing a large she wolf behind the bar was enough to completely break my meditation, showing me the shape of the flesh her chi wears. If you can see chi, a being's chi - being bound very deeply to both body and mind, will naturally take the shape they tink of as their own. In the above example, It was Mrs. Hollister. Having had been born a wolf pup and come to her awareness in the shape of a wolf, her chi will forever take the form of a wolf. I have been told that a psychic can "see" that there is something "off" about their oura, but I am not sure what they mean.
Sorcerers and witches leave traces of energy on their illusions and transformations, very subtle, almost impossible to detect, and only an indication that the person is hiding their true appearance.
The undead, like Ms. Darken, are even easier to detect, where positive chi flows through the living, the living dead are sustained by negative chi. The mere walking dead are sustained by no chi.
There are a few, very few, Tatsu walking about in the shape of men. I will respect their privacy and wishes by not making them any easier to uncover - should one reveal it's self to you, you have either gained an eternal ally, or your days of hunting have ended.

Which is all well and good, but I think he is looking for some more general ways of spotting shape shifters... something that people who can't see auras can find.

The little scanner I came up with does work with at least two type of were creatures I have come across. Range is limited.

Werewolves are pretty common right? There should be more information by our members here. So far we have a good start, but we need to know more than just methods of detection.

They are not that common in my experience. Could be a regional thing.

I always thought that Russia and the former USSR would be chock full of tales of werewolves and other shape shifters.

Russian werewolves are not like the werewolves you're used to talking about. This is Natasha's field though, not mine.

See if she can enlighten us with some of her information then. She's a smart cookie, so her wisdom should prove to be quite useful.

I know that there are alot of various types of werewolves alone, but it boggles the mind that there are even more types of shapeshifting creatures out there.
I wonder if there is any truth to it?

Some truth.
I think most lore is simply make believe variations on a real thing. Helpfully and hindrance all at the same time.
