This fellow raises some interesitng points.

Squid are reasonably intellegent but very agressive predators. Octopii are much smarter and are more cautious and stealthy. The idea that they would have avoided detection when the squids haven't is certainly credble.

But one has to wonder, what would be going on inside 40 or 50 lb brain of a giant octopus?
Ain't nuthin' that can't die.
