Investigators checking out Fort Benton

I thought I would share this story I came across. It is a fluff piece about a group of Paranormal Investigators in Montana. They seem to be in it for the fame of being on a tv show, but it sounds like the town would be an interesting place to explore.

While I have to take into consideration the stories told, the one picture they do show online looks more like a bunch of dust motes caught on tape from a dirty camera.

Caliburn: Here's the answer to your dillema, education in the form of entertainment. In such a format the panic reaction is greatly reduced, allowing civilians to be exposed to such without the mass panic. Have you been noticing the increase in shows on educational channels about unexplained phenomina? That increase is not an accident, it is just a slow process.

But it's too slow.

Things might be happening soon.

Things almost always might be happening soon, no one denies that. The issue is how quickly can you introduce something that is possibly very traumatic to the general public.

If this is truly a way to waken people up to the supernatural, then it is better than nothing. I just think it will be an uphill battle because a lot of people are jaded by the special effects industry.

Remember the same types of shows 15 years ago? They always found "reasonable" explainations to any and all phenomena, and always resolved whatever case they were showing, never with any doubt that it was just a misinterpretation of a common natural phenomena. I suppose Caliburn, that you think the government should put someone like myself in every school in the country to tell the kids not to let their feet dangle off the edge of the bed so the boogey man doesn't bite their toes off.

Nope, but I think the government should educate peope on the basics of what to do if they encounter the supernatural (and that shlould always include contacting the police).

I think tht the government should also make sure that every police officer receives a basic training for dealign with supernatural occurances and that most major police forces have teams qualified for dealing with notable supernatural threats.

I laos think that the goernment should give basic anti-supernatural training to all members of the military.

As a seasoned expert, your role would be helping the police and military in their training.

Once again we get into letting people know about the supernatural.

My stance is simple. The general populace shouldn't know, because they can't handle it. No amount of education will stop stop people from freaking out.

I think the opposite. All the horror movies that have been out, Howling, ect have prepared the human psyche for the possibility of the supernatural. Only problem I have with it is, are we looking at a Witch Hunt again, with all things supernatural targeted, and then possibly those with psychic abilities?

I think it is a debate that is worth touching back on every once in a while. Especially since it is something that may eventually need to be addressed outside a discussion.

Ghost,

I agree, no ammount of education will stop people from freaking out.

What we need is to get enough information into the system now so that when the really bad stuff starts happening, the number of freak outs isn't so bad as to possibly cost humankind it's future.

Short term pain, long term gain.

I agree with Erik . . .

I agree with Erik. It’s important enough to revive the question every once in a while.
