Worth it?

I see elsewhere that there are those who question if it is "worth it" to help a friend.
Ms. Dawes, it is people like you that fill the alleyways with teh downtrodden, they are "not worth it". Children get beaten to death while the neighbors listen because "it is not worth it" to get involved. Criminals can act in the open in places because so many people say "it is not worth it" to talk to the police.
People like you disgust me Ms. Dawes, with your questioning of "is it worth it", in case you forgot, you are talking about a person's life, not a repair to your automobile. Who are you to decide the value of a human being?
As to if helping another is "worth it" or not, my determination is simple - if I can help I do - no thought of if someone is 'worth" helping, or of reward, my consideration is merely how much of a physical threat they pose to those who do no harm.

What Heather was talking about was is it worth making yourself so sick you have to be hospitalised?
I don't see how that was very helpful for Holister (or anybody else involved in this love trianage or whatever the fuck is going on).
And I don't see anybody throwing him into the alley or beating him.
Too much drama. Too little hunting.
I’d worry myself sick.

_____I’d worry myself sick if it helped someone. But I haven’t worried myself sick before. Maybe if I tried harder?

Think about it.
For just a second.
How does making yourself sick help anybody?
It just means other people have to stop what they're doing to help you.

So now I guess I forgot how to include a sentance subject correctly? Where in my post did I limit myself To Mr. Holister's troubles?
Let me clarify my position for all of you then.
The problems with almost all societies almost all stem from one small idea - "it's not worth it." Well it is worth it. If through your constant attempts to aid others, one man who was lost comes into the light of peace, it was worth it.
The problems of Mr. Holister are of a concern to me because he is a friend, I am however, unsure of any help that does not come from within himself that will resolve his issue. Since I am concerned I am championing this single cause? My how the world has changed. in my younger days it was more than just champions who showed concern, it was the common people.
The cause I have actually championed is different - the blood of the innocent will not go unanswered. Just thought you might like to have some straight facts before you maul me in print.

On you? No. On the entire philosophy that so many of today's people follow, the philosophy of "is it worth it?" rather than a philosophy of "How can I help?" You were merely the person who posed the question to which I am responding, the question of "Is it worth it?", Ms. Dawes.
I notice that you do not deny that the question you asked is at the root of many ills, were I like so many today are, I would not have bothered to say my peice, merely because I would have asked "Is it worth it?" and in doing so found a way to make it "not my business", or have found a valid reson to claim that "it isn't worth it", a reason rather like the breif conflict we seem to be experiencing.
If I have caused you to eximine more closely the ills of society, and consider the impact of asking the question of "is it worth it?" I have achieved my goal.

Forgive me then for misreading you, Ms. Dawes, as you were the first to ask the question, you were the one I focused on as the source of my discomfort. It was wrong of me and I do apologise.
I am not sure exactly why such things pain me as much as they do, and I am honestly apologetic for lashing out in your direction. When I read the question of is it worth it, a lot of things that I had little cause to point in your direction boiled up, and I put them into words, words that even though I can delete them, cannot be removed from the thoughts of those who read them. Again I am sorry for that Ms. Dawes.
