In transit...

A few years ago in Kamchatka we were investigating a report of something like that which is called Big Foot in N. America.

The first reports were by hunters outside Petropavlovsk (capial city of Kamchatka Peninsula). They saw a "bear that stands up straight, humanoid" - translation of a part of the report given by one of the hunters. Kamchatka has a huge population of brown bears and are as important to life as the buffalo to the native Americans. As hunters they have seen a lot of brown bears. What they are reporting is nothing like they would have ever seen in the past. They made the decision not to kill the creature and immediately went home and called the police. By the time they returned, nothing was there.

We found no evidence and saw nothing. After a month we were called off of the mission.

Last year there were some more sightings. This time they were closer to the village of Kluchi. This morning there was a report of one of these creatures attacking a child. So we are going back.

The theory is that these bears are mutants that likely escaped or were set loose. Taking no chances that they are supernatural, however, we have plenty of nets and cement foam, and ammo. Further, if they are mutants, this is likely the result of military grade mutogens; we want to know who else is playing with it.

Stay safe.

Hmm, nothing in recent memory has any bearing or similarity to this report, but If I run across anything that be related to this I'll let you all know.

Nets and foam?

You folks already have two of the finest anti-supernatural weapons in the world Saiga-12 and the Baikail, why bother with hokey stuff like that?

Standard Operating Procedure.

I/we am/are authorised to use deadly force, but SOP says to bring them in alive and to kill as a last resort.

Defining "last resort" sometimes get fuzzy in the field. I have introduced a few soupies to the business end of a shotgun. I'm not one for the long range shooting; tried it, just not very good at it.

While I am here, I may as well give an update.

We had a sightning today. Definitely bipedal. If it is a mutant, as we think it is, I wonder why it would attack a child with several people around to see it happen? We would expect it to try to stay out of sight.

I'm typically working an urban environment, so long range shooting is generally over rated for me. Besides the damn things generally don't let you see them until they are close enough to touch.

Sounds like your boy is either too hurt/angry/hungry to give a damn about being noticed. That or it doesn't believe there are any threats to its existence.

Proove him wrong.

Or the child wasn't just a randam target, and it was worth the risk to the creature to wade through the rest of you to get at it...

I've got another theory for you...

Among the Wisconsin Potawatomi people there is a legend of creatures called Bear-Walkers. A spirit called the Tree Creature would assume the guise of a chipmunk and study homans to learn their weaknesses. It would then tempt and trick a person into accepting a bear-walker bundle which carried with it an obligation to do the bidding of the Tree Creature. The bundles, usually wrapped in bear skin were considered evil and could contaminate innocent people who came in contact with them. The new Bear-Walker would then roam the night in one fo many forms, but most commonly as a bear with fire glowing in its mouth.

In Californaia there were legends of the Pomo Bear Doctor, also called the gauk buraghal ('man bear'). this was a person who built themselves a special suit from a bear skin which granted them supernatural powers. they also tended to wear beads to protect vital areas ont heir bodies.

Obviosuly these are both American legends, but I find that such a legend you hear of in one country usually pops up in some form or another in almost every other country in the world.

So what you may be dealing with there is actually some sort of shaman. Bear worship is the oldest known religion, and one whose secrets have never been fully discovered by modern man.

One of the flyboys sighted one. He tracked and we were dropped it to nab it. We had to shoot it and it ran off; later we found it, nearly dead. It put a hell of a fight still, but we subdued it and managed to take it alive. Not sure what it might be yet. It looks like a normal bear, only it walks on its hind legs - it never went to all fours, even after we hit it.

Odd - then again, what isn't?

my apologies if this post seems a bit off... I'm just a bit sleep deprived, knowing there's some hideous creature out back probably biding its time before it kills me that I can do nothing about... there was some hideous inhuman screeching at various points in the night; probably some other thing being devoured alive by the creature in the shed.

but I digress... the good father has forgotten the most widely known class of legendary bear shamans... the Viking berserker. I'm a bit too tired to give a full write-up on the subject, just do a quick googling of the terms bear and berserker and you should get the gist of it quickly enough...

You might just want to do something abotut hat shed critter before it starts feeding on something more than the local wildlife.

Got any contacts in the middle of the Bible Belt (no, I won't give away the specifics of my location outside of PM, the fate of MrLoucifer attests to why it would be imprudent to do so)? Every time I try to get local help, I always end up with either men in white labcoats, prayer circles around my shed, or people who apparently got away from the first group who want to make the thing do their bidding... it's quite vexing.

I appreciate all of the input. It seems that the creature is indeed a deliberate experiment that had gone wrong. Not quite the angry hulk, but it makes the point, I think.

Either road, after several raids and the help of a US Government agency in Alaska we have arrested a six suspects. As remote as Kamchatka is, strange behaviour is easily noticed by the locals.

As we we got two out of two bears sighted and anumber of suspects, we are headed back to Moscow. We will leave the police investigation up to the police.

Good work. Nice to see some international co-operation as well.
