One less snatcher in Seattle

There was a man hiding behind a large garbage recepticle (the type found in alleyways, not the round ones). He seemed to be very sick, his body at war with it's self. He called to me, and I could tell that the sunlight made the poor man's eyes hurt by the way he was squinting. I approached slowly, I could tell the man was hungrey, and hungry men in desperate straights sometimes take desperate actions. I wanted to help him, and somehow knew that he could be helped. As I approached he began whimpering, moaning softly about his hunger. The poor fellow, was unwashed, likely for several months, his clothes so tattered and torn that were it not for the number of layers he wore, his clothing would not serve as such.

Was this guy what he seemed?

Judging by a recent post by Li-sensei in /Philosophy/, I would say this guy was very much what he seemed...and I would say that "was" is the key word in that sentence.
