A TOWN in South America is living in fear after several sightings of a 'creepy gnome' that locals claim stalks the streets at night.

The midget - which wears a pointy hat and has a distinctive sideways walk - was caught on video last week by a terrified group of youngsters.

Teenager Jose Alvarez - who filmed the gnome - yesterday told national newspaper El Tribuno that they caught the creature while larking about in their hometown of General Guemes, in the province of Salta, Argentina.

He said: “We were chatting about our last fishing trip. It was one in the morning.

“I began to film a bit with my mobile phone while the others were chatting and joking.

"Suddenly we heard something - a weird noise as if someone was throwing stones.

"We looked to one side and saw that the grass was moving. To begin with we thought it was a dog but when we saw this gnome-like figure begin to emerge we were really afraid."

Jose added that other locals had come forward to say they had spotted the gnome.

He said: “This is no joke. We are still afraid to go out - just like everyone else in the neighbourhood now.

"One of my friends was so scared after seeing that thing that we had to take him to the hospital.”

Lots of cultures have dwarf spirits in them, many of them quite mean spirited. Need to make sure it isn't one of these.

I did a little searcing online and found this.

GENERAL ACHA (DNA) -- The presence of a "dwarf" or "green midget" wandering the backyards of many neighborhoods in General Acha has been the latest subject of conversation. It appears to be a short, green entity which runs away with haste when detected.

A resident of the El Oeste neighborhood informed this newspaper that the entity appeared twice on her property: once in the morning and once in the afternoon. According to the woman, her husband was resting on both occasions, but when he reported to the backyard in response to his wife's screams, the mysterious entity vanished by rapidly climbing up a tree. While the man did not see the "dwarf", he gives his spouse the benefit of the doubt, stating that he has known her for 40 years and can vouch for her physical and mental health.

All versions agree in that the entity is short in stature. Another resident added that ti moved so quickly that it was hard to describe it. The fact is that this entity, described as "a green dwarf", is causing a stir in the city and its manifestations have been the subject of conversation in certain circles. The stories have already captivated radio audiences and interest and curiosity for the subject increase as time goes by.

So it could be a cattle mutillator . . . which makes it only a small step from people mutillator.

Animal mutilations are typically a stepping stone for attacks on humans.

However, we do have one victim in hospital and apparently this sort of dwarf thing has been scampering around there for years - worth a look see to find out what is happening.

I don't find the video itself convincing either - again I'm saying we should check this out, apparently there have been reports of dwarf critters in the area for years nd there have also been cattle mutilations.
