Kolya? Sasha? Natasha? What's really going on over there?

Falling icicles kill six wrote:MOSCOW (Reuters) - Six people have been killed in three days by icicles falling from buildings in a central Russian region, ITAR-TASS news agency reported Tuesday.

Plummeting chunks of ice is an annual hazard for pedestrians in Russia during the spring when the sun finally melts thick layers of ice and snow which build up on roofs over months of freezing temperatures and darkness.

Medical authorities in the region of Samara told ITAR-TASS that five people died in the city of Samara and another person died in the nearby town of Otradny between February 23 and February 25.

Sounds about right to me.

Someone up here in Chi-town died of something similar. Big ice chunk fell off one of the skyscrapers downtown, fell on some guy--I think the poor sap was a tourist, not sure, don't remember. They ended up closing the roads around that and several other major skyscrapers, installing heating systems designed to melt off the ice, and didn't open those streets up again until after the ice was all gone.

So yeah, the story as they present it sounds very plausible to me.

"An icy stabbing so swiftly done
the victim scarcely felt it
The police were baffled
'Where's the weapon?'
The sun shines down to melt it."

The cluster in time and geography is rather suspicious.

For once, I agree with Ron. Russia is Ice Demon territory, and it just seems too suspiscious to be a random coincidence.
