Okay, this suggests to me, Ben is somewhere that he -wants- at least partially to be, for the time being. Perhaps a personal guilt session of self-bashing for a while, so he feels suitably punished for what has happened?

Well he hasn't commented on this since he recovered, so at least he seams to have repressed whatever memories he had of this.
