there are quit a few supernatural critters that can be shot or stabbed just fine. and well you can deflect bullets or swords or knifes with magic you can not keep it up for vary long.. even things that can not be hurt by most things can be hurt by silver or silver jacketed rounds

There are other factors to consider about gunnery....spiritual possession and the authorities.

If I was a malevolent spirit, the person or persons I would take control over would be the one(s) with the gun(s). Then let the 'fun' happen.

I'm pretty sure I once witnessed a possession and the idea of that person being armed would've been a very scary and dangerous concept.

Also...when the authorities show up (after the neighbors report the barrage of gunfire) they are going to be coming in a state of alarm with their guns in hand...usually a bad thang.

I have a feeling I'm not changing anyone's opinion, but if I showed up for a spook hunt and everyone was packing heat....I think I'd bow out.

It’s the reason I don’t carry guns

You’ve proven a valid point, PeterSchnauss—the very reason I generally don’t go in a potential hunt with guns. However, I have my own weapons.

Lucky you...alas I have no metaphysical talents (unless screaming like a little girl counts), just a regular schmoe.

Going in with a little knowledge, some preparation and a little courage has gotten me by thusfar.

Don’t count yourself out because of that!

Luck has nothing to do with it, PeterSchnauss. My weapons—metaphysical talents, as you call them—extend only so far, help only so much—even then, I wonder. Rather, I’d call them quasi-metaphysical talents, as they cannot do an eighth of what others have claimed.

Preparation, knowledge—courage—those are far greater assets. Hopefully, they will come in bags when you confront—or prepare for, at least—this being, danorviel.

whats what my mentor always told me... you cant always rely in your gifts. some times you must use knowledge prep ordinary weapons...

there are some things that magic or psi just dont work on or if they do they dont work well on, granted if you know what your dealing with you know what its weaknesses are... silver iron what have you... and some times what your dealing with takes just about every tool you have in your box

Danorviel hasn’t posted in quite some time—can we send someone to check on her?

It couldn't hurt, Rowan.

I confess I'm curious about the hundred year old arcanist (unless he's just a cosplayer). I'm something of an ametuer historian. If I get a chance, I'll see what I can dig up.
