Japanese is easier to learn as a first language than English, but even most Japanese people admit that Kanji is incredibly hard to learn to read and write... With over 3000 symbols, it's no wonder.

I hear Chinese is harder to learn to speak than it is to learn to read...and with more than 10 different dialects (each one practically its own language)...well, I haven't studied Chinese, so I can't really say.

Cinese is a bear to learn to speak correctly, at least if you are going for more than just "city talk" AKA mandarin, as for writing in Japanese, there are actually very few native japanese that do it well, and if you want someone who does not think in the language to read and understand your text, you risk making things so accurately described you triple it's length, and likely offend anyone who is fluent who reads it.

I would love to learn to speak and read both, but something tells me I don't have the attention span to, thanks Mr. Lindon.
