Which if it is provoked to run it can be eliminated by fighter craft. If it stays put we can nuke it. We'll probably want to find a way to keep it from teleporting, that's the only wild card.

Fighter craft? How much stuff are the Russians able of moving over there?

Quite frankly, I'd believe it would be foolish of them not to set up a permanent base there including an airfield.

But how big an object can they get through? I'm not sure you noticed, but fighter aircraft are pretty large.

Either send them through in pieces, send smaller aircraft, or send fighters with foldable wings like America used on Aircraft Carriers during WW2.

Again, what are the Russians willing and able to send? Not like either of us know.

Where do we put them if we could evacuate them?

Pinning demons down is difficult. You are exactly right. Maybe a giant anti-magic cloud or one of those disruption generators. Several things we are thinking about.

Russia is a big country, I'm sure you can find room somewhere.

Everything would have to be sent in pieces unless we can get a bigger portal.
But before that we have to have some infrastructure and logistics in place to cope with that. Like Bert said, an airfield would be a great asset, but building it would take more time than we have. A small airfield, maybe.
We were able to get some fairly small helicopters through. But keeping them fueled and maintained was a bitch.
Fuel, electricity, plumbing, everything necessary for installing, building the aircraft, sustaining even a small permanent forward operating base is beyond the scope of this mission. It would be a huge under taking.
That is why we are just keeping a low profile. Much easier to maintain and much less of a target.

I feel we should at least establish a base for waterborne operations.

Boats simplify everything.

Yeah. Get some Boats and some more DUKWs and we'll be in business!

SCUBA Sergei has already begun the beach reconnaissance.

Who's he?

We got some frogmen reconnoitering the target island and gathering intel regarding composition, slope, and as many factors as we can to help us devise our attack routes and so forth.
"SCUBA Sergei" admittedly does not come off the tongue as well as "SCUBA Steve".

Well, I took a course in piloting the thing and it can withstand hurricanes. Soooo, probably.

I am from this world as well and hurricaines are the least of your worries on the seas. There are sea serpents that can drag a large sailing vessel to the ocean floor, things like the frigate that is still in active service with the US navy. And there are dragons that may take interest in the new item on the ocean below, there are more dangers but these are the biggest to be pointed out. If any one would like more information I can be reached through Michael's PM or email. I am not an expert on all of the world but will share what I do know.

What is its top speed in the water?
Posted: Tue May 01, 2007 8:18 pm
by Bert_the_Turtle
Road speed 50 mph, water 6 mph
Its main use is as an amphibious truck shuttling people and supplies between ships and from ship to shore in support of an invasion. So if we load one or more up with supplies when we assault the demon's stronghold our supplies will be able to keep pace with us.

Hm. Yea, we will see what we can go. Getting the big boats in will be pretty difficult, I think. Unless we can find an easy to build up natural harbour type of thing. Which so far we have not.

What if we bring in Engineers and construct a pontoon bridge?

I belive I can help with the harbor, an earth elemental would dig one relitively fast and a water elemental can keep most the water out of the area to allow faster work on the dosks and other need infrastructer. I just got in and am trying to catch up from the last few days of post and buisness.

Sounds like something you and Natasha can check into.
And welcome back. Glad you are still with us! Sounded like you got into some scarey stuff.

So how permant a pressence do you guys think is the best to go for? It sounds like there is a fair chance anything large might get wiped out before you can bring in a force that could properly defend it.
Posted: Wed May 02, 2007 1:25 am
by Bert_the_Turtle
Well, if we bring in sufficient resources we could have a solid defensive base constructed post haste.

If you hadn't noticed, Koyla said it would be exceedingly difficult to do so.
Bert, you should appreciate the value of light, mobile and lethal rather than heavy, static and dead.
