Nothing I'm proud of . . . but honesty makes it possible to deal with it.

Honesty truly is the best policy.

Followed closely by plausible deniablity.

Unless you are the government then flat out lying is perfectly acceptable.

At that point it is expected.

It is a good strategy.

Maybe.

In any case it is easier to say, "I'm an idiot" than "oh, I didn't know I couldn't do that."

Well, the plausible deniability of the 80's and 90's was better than the outright lying we have today.

I agree.

What Sasha meant was basically "read between the lines".

He is also a great believer in politicians being far more intelligent and capable than we give them credit for. Execution, on the other hand, is the hard part, especially in democratic type situations.

Underestimating the intellegence of politicians is a good way to let them get away with the stuff you don't want.

Exactly.

They are always smart, it's just what they apply heir smarts too and what we want are often disconnected.

The strong wind explanation does not always seem satisfactory. In May 1981 frogs fell on a town in Greece which originated from northern Africa. As usual, no other debris or objects such as alligators were reported.

Until the 17th century, one acceptable explanation was a phenomenon called spontaneous generation. Frogs or woodpeckers or jellyfish were spontaneously generated in the skies and fell to terra firma.
