So I picked up the Zombie Survival Guide by Max Brooks today.
Is it actually any good or all just fiction?

Never read it, so can't say.

Re: Zombie Guide
Most zombies I've ever ran into - the magical kind - don't spread anything except bacterial infection that results in gangrene if untreated.
Some of the advice is, as a general rule, sound. Keep your distance, conserve ammo, and avoid when possible.

Re: Zombie Guide
There is some good advice in there, but unfortunately it got buried when someone decided to turn the book into a novelty item in order to make it commercially viable.
As a general rule, the most conservative parts of the book are generally the most accurate. Escape and evade are always your best bets. Engage only when you have a clear advantage or are unable to escape. Engage from range, stay mobile, stay calm and make every shot count.
Also, not every zombie works the same way.
