Jizo's Buddhism
One day, Jizo received one of Hofuku's disciples and asked him, "How does your teacher instruct you?" "My teacher instructs me to shut my eyes and see no evil thing; to cover my ears and hear no evil sound; to stop my mind-activities and form no wrong ideas," the monk replied. "I do not ask you to shut your eyes," Jizo said, "but you do not see a thing. I do not ask you to cover your ears, but you do not hear a sound. I do not ask you to cease your mind-activities, but you do not form any idea at all."
Understanding, is not a thing that comes swiftly, but rather in stages, a journey that once begun, must be seen to it's end.
Re: Jizo's Buddhism
Hi Shang,
When I was little all I got was "Sit down, shut up and listen."
I still get that at school sometimes, but I find I'm learning so much more I "Get up, get out and try something."
Hannah
PS: I also get yelled at by Dad for climbing people's houses, but that's another story.

I will be who I chose to be.
Re: Jizo's Buddhism
"See no evil, hear no evil, speak no evil." It is a nice idea, but all it does is make one blind to the probems of the world.
It is my opinion that when evil is understood it will be seen; when it is seen it must be worked against; and that is when it will change itself so that it must be newly understood.
One must veiw the world always with new eyes. If you think you know your world, ask your self where that knowledge comes from and constantly verify that the awareness continues to hold true. If it does, act on it; if it does not, find understanding quickly but accurately.

The Earth quakes and the Heavens rattle; the beasts of nature flock together and the nations of men flock apart; Volcanoes usher up heat while elsewhere water becomes ice and melts; and then on other days it just rains. Indeed do many things come to pass.

What are you up to now?
He’s been better at reining that in. Maybe because Sarah is with us. Though it could be you’re just doing better at hiding it.
(I’d wink if I could)

Sometimes the only thing to be done is to feel one’s way through the darkness.
