WASHINGTON -- A man carrying a sword and a shotgun was arrested a block from the Capitol on Friday, but there were no shots fired or injuries, police said.
Michael Steven Gorbey, a 38-year-old with a long criminal record, was arrested and has been charged as a felon in possession of a firearm, police said. Other charges are pending.
Gorbey did not resist arrest after he was apprehended walking in the direction of the Capitol, police said.
"The officers were able to apprehend him quite easily," said U.S. Capitol Police spokeswoman Sergeant Kimberly Schneider.
She said Gorbey's residence was unknown and that there were several addresses associated with his name.
"He's got an extensive criminal record," Schneider said.
She did not provide details about where Gorbey might have been going or what he meant to do when he got there.
"He could have been headed anywhere," she said.
Police with dogs cordoned off several blocks as a bomb squad inspected Gorbey's pickup truck, parked just a block from Senate office buildings and three blocks from the Capitol.
Schneider said there were "items of concern" inside the truck. She declined to identify the items, which are still under investigation. Police removed the vehicle from the area.

Well, I'd say carrying a sword and shotgun down the street isn't quite a supernatural explanation for his being arrested. But I doubt that he'd just say "Oh, I'm off killing nightmare creatures" if he's any real hunter. I think his silence says it all. (to quote bad poetry)
You traded in your wings
For everything freedom brings
You never left me
You never let me
See what this feeling means
Everything that you feel
Is everything that I feel
So when we dream
We shout....
For everything freedom brings
You never left me
You never let me
See what this feeling means
Everything that you feel
Is everything that I feel
So when we dream
We shout....

My bet is as follows. Local resident sees hunter with firearms and a blade and wisely calls law enforcement. Law enforcement picks up ther hunter, who wisely does not resist because he's "one of the good guys". Now this is where things take a few different routes.
1. Everyone in the know stays out of it and lets the process run it's course, hunter winds up with 5-30 on weapons charges and gets out too old to be much of a threat to anyone - or anything. Nasties loose because the hunter lives. Society loses because the hunter has been effectively retired.
2. For public appearance everything runs like a repeat of case one, with one minor exception. The hunter winds up in a mental health facility for a prolonged (often indefinate) stay where he recieves the best treatments science can find to try to help "cure" his "delusions and hallucinations".
Nasties win, because the hunter is not allowed to return to his trade while he still belives it to be of importance.
3. Again looking like #'s 1 and 2 only after a short stay a few strings get pulled, and the hunter is realeased, either by a carefully assembled parol board, or by evidence being crafted that clears the hunter. Frequently the hunter would recieve a visit reminding him to keep his activities a bit more quietly. Nasties lose across the board since the hunter is merely inconvienenced.
4. The hunter just "dissapears" after being placed into the system and one of the agencies that works on such things gets a new agent to fight the good fight, and help keep things from boiling out into the streets.

Let's hope that he's helping someone else, then.
