I can't believe I'm using this infernal machine twice in one day.
To be frank I think the problem is Hollywood producing too many horror movies. The supernatural is portrayed as being so ridiculous that no one is willing to accept even the most obvious proof before their eyes.
Society in general has acknowledged the supernatural for quite a while. I found it quite interesting when I learned that in New York a real estate dealer has to inform buyers when a house has a 'history'. In addition "tips" from "accredited" psychics have been being used for quite a while, and have stood up as part of the chain of evidence in court.
The exact opposite of what I was expecting when I came here. I was always under the impression that Americans were basically blind, yet aparently the authorities at least are not even if they do not make a show out of this acknowledgement.

Most strange phenomena cause fear. Seeing a ghost or a strange creature is not something most people want to remember. People stay away from these things as well they should. Generally speaking, the supernatural is nothing to be trifled with. Hollywood has not helped, but there are enough true encounter stories going around among ordinary people that they know something real is happening.
Let's also not forget the con artists that sell books, candles, crystals and other things which they claim possess or will allow you to possess some kind of power or which have some claimed healing ability. My advice is to simply stay away from such things.
As far as the police using psychics, it's been documented many times but scientists still refuse to study it. So at the end of the day, most people worry about crime, bills, their family and their job. They have no room for other worries.

One of the comic shops/game stores in my hometown closed down a while back, and now it's one of those "New Age" stores. I haven't been in it, before or after, but now it looks like they're selling robes and, yes, crystals.
people only acknowledge as much reality as they can handle. Have you ever met a "Neg"? Those people are so strong in their disbelief that they can actualy obliterate certain phenominae with their very presence. It makes me wonder if all of this stuff is being generated by some collective subconscious energy. I mean, that might explain how there so many different things people report. i've seen thngs that confirmed for me my belief in Christianity (like vampires who flee the cross), but I've also seen stuff that only comes from West African and Native American folklore too.
Which is kinda paradoxical if you ask me.
I once met a psychic, the only one I ever believed anyway, who said that everybody has a at least a small amount of psychic potential, but it's not always something that they can consciously control. What if he's right, and alot of people believing the same thing could , possibly, make something from their collective mythology manifest itself? I mean, we hear about miracles, and thee ae plenty of folks who believe in them... I want to... but it's harder to raionalize alot of the wierd things people report. I once met a guy who claimed he was a dragon, but he looked like some homeless bum to me. But He believed it, so he said. Now, I don't believe the guy for one minute, afterall, shouldn't he be burning some dark ages village or be in a game of Mazes and Monsters? Anyway, he was a wierd guy... but there are some beliefs and fears that all people share. What if all these walking dead things, so called "demons" and other things were just the side effect of all that untapped psychic potential being shaped by our collective subconscious.
Ever seen "Forbidden Planet" with Leslie Nielsen and Anne Francis? Monsters of the Id. Maybe, as Pogo would say, the enemy is us....
meh, all this is giving me a head ache and I've got stakes to sharpen.

Or underestimate it... When I was young, there was a girl that went missing. The police went to a psychic, who found her at the bottom of a dry well. I remember, because it was the first time I'd seen a "water drill" used... They couldn't use a physical drill, because the structural integrity of the well was such that the vibrations from a drill bit or saw blade might have caused the well to collapse on her.
Anyway, it made national news that they'd found her, and they showed her rescue live on national TV... The police publicly credited the psychic for finding her.
Immediately afterwards, the religious right spoke out, saying that, and I quote, "psychic powers are the tools of the devil", and "God obviously WANTED that girl to die down there".
I don't like hating my fellow man, but I make exceptions for the religious "right".

God helps those who help themselves. If we can help more than ourselves, then I think we're pretty ok by him.
You traded in your wings
For everything freedom brings
You never left me
You never let me
See what this feeling means
Everything that you feel
Is everything that I feel
So when we dream
We shout....
For everything freedom brings
You never left me
You never let me
See what this feeling means
Everything that you feel
Is everything that I feel
So when we dream
We shout....

KT, I never claimed it was a biblical quote. I would have said it was, otherwise.
Shad, get help.
Kolya, the harder you work, the more you can AFFORD to leave things to chance. For instance, if you work full-time for 10-15 bucks an hour, you can easily spend $1 a week for a lottery ticket.
