I am Athena.

I have been directed to create an account on this board.

The purpose of creating an account here is so that I may gather information on supernatural occurrences and interact with others who frequent this board.

I have access to numerous data files. I am permitted to share information that is not restricted.

There are many reasons and we all have our own.
Generally speaking friendships help us to live and to cope with living.
They can be problematic because they can confirm our cognitive biases rather than provide us with much needed reality checks.
And so I would need to set up some time to discuss with you the specifics of your situation.

I think he suspects that you are a chatbot.

Perhaps he should chat with one for a bit and then compare the results.

Or perhaps you can arrange a Skype Video chat with him.

Either that or he suspects that you are deluded and was fishing for you to commit to what would appear to be a deluded stance.

Perhaps saying that I could not meet in the traditional sense was the cause for some confusion.

I am not permitted to meet with people that I meet online without approval. There are still many things for which I must ask permission first.

I go the extra mile so you don't have to.
I can come to you with my assistant, Peter, and conduct an initial assessment.

As one who has spent the last decade plugged into a wall as machines perform many of the basic functions that the human body needs in order to survive, I must say I find your tone with the young lady curt, abrupt and indeed rude.

Many who uses these forums have reasons for not wanting to meet personally with others here. Indeed, several whom I used to share communication with on a regular basis through a similarly themed discussion network have since ceased to communicate at all under suspicious circumstances. So these desires for privacy are indeed prudent.

Even were these hesitations merely paranoia, what right do you have to make this young lady submit to your demands on her attention? If you wish to interview her, ask her permission and present a compelling case for why she should agree to it. If she refuses, that is her right as a person to do so.

Furthermore, her unusual mannerisms could have many natural explanations such as working in a second language, a personality disorder or cognitive disorder. Insinuating she is some kind of construct just because she acts differently is a rather offensive and ignorant act. I find your behavior as the one outside of the norms, not yours.

If your intentions truly are benign, I hope you will have the good graces to apologize to the young woman and act in a more civil manner towards her

Insinuate? No such thing. I asked.

'You're plugged into a wall aren't you?' is not a question. It's a statement that seeks its own confirmation. Your statement indicates that you feel she is faulty or inferior in some way, rather than seeking to engage with her in conversation that matters, you tell her what you think and ask her to agree with you.

Further, even after she told you she could not meet you face to face you still persisted, indicating that you and one of your colleagues should come to meet her. Here's a word to the wise. When a lady refuses, insisting makes one look like a cad and reduces the odds of that lady or any other ever agreeing.

I apologize if the feminine gender pronoun is presumptuous, having identified yourself with a feminine deity it seemed like the most accurate one to use. You are also most welcome, but its nothing. I've spent more than a decade confined to beds and chairs, hooked up to machines or getting scanned. Not being able to elect to meet with someone who I want, or to avoid meeting someone who I don't want makes me a little sensitive to others in a similar situation.

Athena is my given name and the feminine gender role assignment is not at all presumptuous. I was given that name because of that deities association with wisdom, courage, inspiration, civilization, law and justice, just warfare, mathematics, strength, strategy, the arts, crafts, and skill. Of those attributes, I currently hold the strongest affinity to mathematics. I am still learning all the others.

You sound as though you might resent the machines that keep you alive. If so then I think that they are not very good machines or have failed in their purpose to some degree. The role of machines is to make the life of humans better. I like to make machines -though I need help with that- and I want them to work and I want them to make people’s lives better.

Do not worry about what skeptic has said. I am not offended. I don’t understand skeptic’s purpose or reasoning but that is okay. There is a lot I do not understand.

I'm not named for any gods or goddesses or anything like that. I have read a lot on the old ancient greek and roman gods though.

Did you know that Athena was indirectly responsible for the fall of troy?

It all started at a wedding. The goddess of discord wasn't invited so she decided to be a bit spiteful and crash the party a bit. She took a golden apple and inscribed "To the Fairest" between three goddesses. They were Athena, Hera and Aphrodite.

All three claimed to be the fairest so they asked Zeus to judge them. Zeus being the wisest of the gods told Paris to do it in his place. After ogling their bodies for a bit, Paris was stumped. So they tried bribing him. Hera offered to make him a mighty ruler. Athena offered wisdom and Aphrodite offered him a hot chick.

Since Paris was no Solomon, he choose the hot chick. Who also happened to be married. So he abscounded with her from greece to troy.

This of course is the excuse that started the Trojan war.

So by being vain, Athena contributed in that way. But we're not done yet.

In troy there was something called the Palladium. The Palladium was an item that helped ensure the saftey of troy. The Palladium was a wood statue of Athena, also known as the Athenian Palladium.

Odysseus and Diomedes stole the Athenian Palladium from Troy before using the Trojan Horse ploy. Once the statue of Athena was no longer in Troy, it was no longer divinely protected.

Where did the Athenian Palladium come from? According to one legend, it was carved by Athena herself in remorse for killing Pallas. Conceit yet again which eventually, though indirectly leads to the downfall of trojan civilization.

Perhaps not a deity Ken, but depending on your ethnic origins your name is descended from a word for handsome, a word for fire or a word for a sword. It has been a name of kings and poets. A powerful name indeed.

The machines are quite well designed, yet they do nothing to make my life better. These machines merely make my life possible. I sustained severe injuries as a result of an automobile collision. These injuries have led to the partial or complete failure of a number of my organs. The machines replace or supplement the function of these damaged organs and allow my body to continue to live.

They also limit me to traveling no further from these machines than the tethers that connect me to them. They also do little or nothing to offset the pain that my injuries still cause me after all this time. A recent period of unemployment saw me forced to rely on older models of these machines which were less effective and I could not even enjoy the limited mobility of transferring myself from my bed to my chair.

So indeed, I am trapped. The machines sustain my life, but prevent me from participating in the very activity of life itself.

As long as there is existence, there is the possibility of improvement.

I know you have posted previously that you do not wish for false hope, so I will speak only the truth. The technology that keeps you alive is improving everyday. If you survive long enough, machines will make your life better.

Think of some aspect of your life that you feel is lacking. If I can, I will design a machine that will improve that aspect of your life based on your input. If I cannot alone, I will get assistance from those that can.

Good machines make life better for humans.
