Deranged Mind or Dark Purpose?

Historian kept 29 dolled-up mummies at home, police say wrote:Russian police said Monday that a historian arrested last week for desecrating several Nizhny Novgorod cemeteries had kept 29 female mummies at home and dressed them up like dolls.

The 45-year-old local resident was detained last week and accused of digging up dead bodies at the local cemeteries over the past two years.

A search of his apartment came up with 29 self-made dolls made of mummified human remains and dressed up in clothes of the buried women. Police said that several plaques from gravestones, maps of local cemeteries and doll-making manuals had been retrieved during the search. Forensic experts matched the man’s fingerprints and footprints with the ones lifted from disturbed graves at the Nizhny Novgorod cemeteries.

Official releases would not identify the man but the Nizhny Novgorod media reported last week that the suspect is a well respected specialist in necropolises Anatoly Moskvin, a PhD in Celtic studies.

The suspect was charged with desecrating dead bodies and their burial sites, a crime punishable by up to three months of arrest or a year of correctional labor.

Too bad our Russian friends are so quiet these days. I'd love their input on this.

Dressing up corpses in dolls’ clothing?

I’ve never heard of such a thing. It’s too early to tell what the culprit’s intentions were. Whether simply deranged or burdened with something more sinister, perhaps an eye should be kept on this article?

Maybe he was trying to recreate something akin to Chalice's rave with the dead.

This sort of reminds me of this story: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Carl_Tanzler

So many questions about Tanzler now

An obituary said he died behind one of his organs . . . he used “self-professed medical knowledge” to treat and cure Hoyos with a variety of medicines . . .

I wonder if anything came of his actions that the media didn’t report.

According to a program I saw about this, he claimed she asked him (after she was dead) to take her home with him. He cleaned her and lived with her as his "wife" for several years before people found out. He'd apparently been having a "relationship" with her body. This just weirds me out completely.

Would paranormal verification be in order?

To validate such a claim never crossed my mind—but we do have such capabilities. Perhaps an attempt to ask Helen ourselves might be in order. I am free over the weekend. I had planned on a friend’s visit, but this entire thing—necrophilia, it was called?—gives me some strong vibes.

I don’t have the money or the means to go to Russia, but perhaps Tanzler’s case should be investigated if it hasn’t been already?

The Tanzler case happened early in the 20th century. No one involved is alive now, to the best of my knowledge. I don't know if checking into this would bring any results, but if I'm ever in Key West, FL, I'd be willing to see what I could find out. I can't get away at the moment, unfortunately. I've got a book I'm working on and need to concentrate on that for now.

If that's the case, the guy's brain musta been in a jar somewhere.

Necrophilia. We oughta take them all and put 'em on an island with the cannibals of the world. Then they'd both be happy.

danorviel, what I think she is referring to is that some of us on these boards have had some success speaking with those who are no longer alive.

Perhaps one or more of the Society members who are capable in that regard might be interested in going to Florida and asking a few questions.

You’re right to my referral, Hannah. My employer overheard me talking about the Tanzler case with a friend, gave me a week off to pursue it—my Christmas and New Year vacation. She’s kind like that—so I’ll be in Florida at the end of the year.

danorviel—good luck on the book.

Hannah, as a psychic sensitive, I am very familiar with speaking with the dead. I just can't get away to Florida at this time. I do need to be in the general area of a spirit to speak with it.

Rowan, I hope your trip is productive! I would be very interested in the outcome.
