nyc_ufoStrange patterns of lights in the sky have been spotted before described much like those seen yesterday flying over New York City. The difference this time is that the lights were spotted in broad daylight and scores of people -- and a video camera -- were there to capture the show. The lights seemed to ascend over the skyscrapers before disappearing outside Earth's atmosphere, sparking fascination and leaving a mystery in the wake. A spokeswoman for the Federal Aviation Administration was not immediately able to say what the lights were, according to ABC: "We are not able to make an identification of what the objects were. We know they weren't aircraft or helicopters." If they were balloons, however, the FAA wouldn't know about them. And that's exactly what one expert thinks they might be -- Mylar balloons, just like the one behind the "ballon boy" hoax in Fort Collins, Colorado, last year.
Others are blogging though and say lights look similar to others spotted at nighttime over the years, placing the balloon theory in the dark.
