Why do we do it?

Post by Joe Smith »

Honestly? Why do we do it? Put ourselves in harms way, trying to protect those we have never even met. Why do we do what we do?

My reasons are simple, what about yours?

I have several reasons and ya' met three of them;

1) Molly, 2)Samantha, & 3) Kelly.

I'm also an LEO who took an oath to Serve & Protect. That emcompasses more than just handing out parking tickets and breaking up bar brawls.

Sides, this stuff is just drawn to me like crap to a blanket. Don't know why, it just is. Always has been, always will I reckon.

The order which took me in and trained me held this to be true

ALL beings who choose it and hold to it deserve the chance to live in peace and prosperity.

the AVERAGE MAN will not allow anything "different" to surivive beside him - Look to your own people's treatment of the Ainu, men everywhere are like this when their neighbors are "different".

not all of our visitors from beyond the veil come to do men harm.

Find the guests, hide them from the sight of men so that they and men may go about peacefull lives.

Find the invaders, the devourers, offer them the peace of men.

If they will not, or cannot accept peace with men, pray for them as you send them to the peace of their next incarnation.

Through your ACTIONS demonstrate the rightness of your path - words speak to the ears, ACTIONS speak more loudly and show others the way.

Do not FEAR death, she is already come, each of you is already hers from the moment you were born - this is written into the very nature of men.
Understanding, is not a thing that comes swiftly, but rather in stages, a journey that once begun, must be seen to it's end.

That's a good question. I just think we do what we do, the good and the bad, and in the end we can hope it balances out.

If not us, then who?

If not now, then when?

With great power, comes great responsibility.

And finally,

Because I can.

You are correct, I did forget that but it is nevertheless quite true.

If I just wanted a better future for her I'd go design weapons for a major manufacturer. I'm good enough to and could easily earn 6 figures a year.

But I need to do something for the world . . . that was made clear to me several years ago.

My recent actions included keeping Hannah safe as a goal. Safe and happy are not the same thing.

However, looking at general principles, where is the line to be drawn? For example Ben, you have a choice. You can save Sam's life, or another child's life . . . What would you do?

I'm pretty sure you would probably save Sam.

What if it was save Sam or two other children?

Five other children?

Ten?

Twenty?

A hundred?

A thousand?

I know my upbringing is rather unusual, but ask yourself Ben, where does your obligation as a father get superseded by your obligation to the human race? Where does self interest yield to doing the right thing for the human race?

I don't have that answer for myself yet, but it is something I wonder about.

I don’t pretend to be a saint or a hero, or a good-person for all those are but just empty words. I am just a man doing a job that was paid for. And may HEAVEN ALL MIGHTY help the thing that gets in my way.

Captain Obvious is obvious.

And even then, the statement was true. You don't get paid for something unless you can do it.

You'll have to excuse me if I'm a little grouchy this morning.
