I'd almost had myself convinced that I'd gotten him. The ash had blown away, he hadn't gotten to the tunnel, the thrall had been fed on before the encounter . . .

Then he sent me Hannah's head.

Not my Hannah, the Hannah from this winter, the little girl we chased through the streets.

It wasn't real, but it was probably some of Mdme. Toussard's finest work.

See what I mean when I said that we just can't ignore what we see going on around us? That's why I and others were so gung ho about getting you trained, not so you would but that you could. Although you're still too young yet for that, you'd at least know how to protect yourself.

I love my Ma too and I begged her ta come with. She refused. It was her choice ta stay behind ta make sure everybody got ta hear the truth.

I wish she could have come. I wish my Pa could go back for her, but even if he did, she still wouldn't come.

I feel so stupid about this whole thing. I thought I had it figured out and at best I blew a good chance, at worst I got played.

I'm still trying to figure out these "memories" that were "returned" to me. Some of them are obviously mine, but others are his. Some of them I have multiple memories of. Some of them I get to remember from more than one perspective.

So I just sit here, waiting in my hotel suite, I know they are going to come sometime soon, while I'm still hobbled like this. I can't even help any of you out. I can't even protect Hannah like this.

All I get to do is think about it.

They finally let me have a computer in here.

Hannah's asleep on a cot here in the room with me. She kept trucking since she bailed me out last night until just a few minutes ago. Pretty impressive for a girl her age.

Anyway, thanks for the compliments, I don't deserve 'em, and they will probably go to my head, but thanks a bunch.
