Re: The Origins of Vampires

Indeed, Mr Caliburn. I might go so far as to hazard a guess that Lilith may be the first (recorded) Master. There are no mentions of Lilith in the Mishnah, at least as far as I can trust the index and other books I have. The Dead Sea scrolls have a reference to a "Seductress" who's descrip...

Re: The Origins of Vampires

The Isiah text is, I assume, 34:14. I had forgotten about this passage - mostly because I blocked out my Exegisis class from memory. I mean 7:30 in the morning Monday/Wendsday/Friday in Chelsea? Hangovers were the single most common reason for missing the first 45 minuets of a 90 minuet class ... I ...

Re: Experiences as a Nightwalker

Interesting.
I take it you suffer from the ordinary reactions to Holy objects?
As I have said, there is no such thing as an absolutely unsaveable sentient being, at least from the POV of soteriology. Also the Divine can use what ever tools come to hand. I'm willing to hear more.

Re: Experiences as a Nightwalker

What I found of interest is that you "heard" the man's prayer.

Dose this sort of thing, hearing thoughts from a distance, happen often?

Welcome to you both. I'm still quite the newbie here, but I'm getting the hang of things.

It is also nice to see another physician in the group.

Re: Lost and Found

From a purely soteriological point of view there is no such thing as a completely lost sentient being. That said, I would be reticent to put to much time in figuring out if a Vampire is going to try and kill me, or others, unless there is some sort of substantial, up front, and fairly convincing evi...

Re: Things Aren’t Going Right

Well now, we are simply drowning in details and suppositions. While I may not be the field agent I once was, I think that we may have to tak into account that this Foundation may be involved in Mr Caliburn and Cynthia's disappearance: While investigating a line of inquiry about the Darkling Cult the...

Thank you, Melissa, for filling in the gaps in my memory. Your quibbles are always enlightening. Things here are as they always are. A few haunts, the occasional Buggie man. Things best left alone in the Smithsonian or the LIbrary of Congress coming out into the light of day and scaring the crud out...

Re: Things Aren’t Going Right

Just because the site predates the cults using them doesn't make it less likely for things to go wrong. I didn't mean to imply that. In fact, I've seen just how wrong things can go when an object or place is disrupted (desecrated). Major fallout, for years. What I was trying to say is that Serpent ...

Re: Ohio Serpent Mound...do folks ever go there?

When I was I child I used to visit my maternal Grandparents in the Ohio Valley. There City, Portsmouth, had a park built on the site of an old Mound and we used to visit Serpent Mound once a summer for a weekend and stay at a nearby RV camp with my Great Aunt and Uncle. It's been years since I visit...

Re: Yes, definitely.

We also tracked down a name for the stormcrow: Bernard Lemercier, a French/Indian known to be active in the early 1700. The Nachez called him a witch, who demanded constant sacrifices trying to open a rift to the ancient mysteries. I think there may be a connection between this cult and the mound w...

Re: Need help

I have nothing like Mr. Caliburns skills, but looking into the ownership and location of a building, and a quick reconnoiter from the parking lot won't go amiss. To far. Lord willing.

Oh well, we live in hope. I would rather do any looking before the new moon is fully manifest.

Re: The Origins of Vampires

The Lilith Legend first appears in late Classical Jewish writings that collected the "Oral Torah" - the Quabala. She's not in the Zohar Book, but it escapes me which writing she's in, and I'm never "googeling" the name of a supernatural nasty again -never ends well for me. What m...

I learned two things at Church yesterday: 1) The man who owned the property my home is on had a reputation as being the town weirdo. As in he wore all black, all the time and had a pentagram ring, in the 40's. No one had a bad word to say about him, the local food pantry got it's start up money in a...

I had another one of those days. I was greeted with a very excitable pair of teenagers on my front stoop before I could even get the tea steeped. (I detest coffee, to acidic.) In a word, a teenager. A scarier thing few parents can imagine. Some part of me would be grateful if it were a Teenager, or group of them. There is some hope for redemption or redirection. Interesting. The Malus Malefactorum was never officially a part of the Churches corpus of books. It was, in fact, on the index of banned books until the 1960's when the list was abolished. A few Anglicans used an expurgated version, but they all predate the founding of the Society. It was also used ...
