Re: The Only Way to Abolish War is to Make Peace Heroic

As you can see, Tanya, it depends upon whom you ask. Some say supernatural evil does not have the good and bad. Just the bad. That along with a completely alien mindset utterly incapable of understanding humans or acting human are what makes them supernatural and evil and supernatural evil. Others i...

Re: Where's the Proof?

Falsifiability is relevant to anything claimed to be scientific in nature. Evidence of an unfalsifiable claim does not neutralise the unfalsifiability of the claim. Calling something evidence does not a priori make it evidence. That's why retractions of even peer reviewed work exist. Research exists...

Re: Where's the Proof?

Well this will teach me to not read everything before responding. I could have saved myself a post. I will go so far as to admit that there are things unexplained. I cannot rule out ordinary causes for them and claim them supernatural based on my years of experience. I need more. You can find my con...

Re: Hello from the new girl.

Why thank you Sebastain for you warm hospitality; you are quite the gentleman. I look forward to perhaps meeting with you one day. You come off as being well spoken and educated, two traits I look for in an acquaintance. Maybe I can be the one to help you find the evidence you are looking for. Than...

Re: Where's the Proof?

I'm guessing that you never heard of Karl Popper. If you have, you are dismissing him. Either road, the difference is the same. The existence of research does not mean money is not an issue. Does selling more ice cream lead to an increase in murder rate? Yes there are grants for all kinds of things....

Re: Ghost in the Machine

Perhaps instead you could deal with the truth that what I said was misrepresented and that you appealed to popularity rather than applied Occam's Razor?

Re: Where's the Proof?

There's no money in it. There may be mountains of research, but there is not mountains of evidence. Dismissal. Again. You are wrong. Again. You Keep Using That Word, I Do Not Think It Means What You Think It Means. The problem is not that we (scientists) are not interested. There are plenty of us w...

Re: Ghost in the Machine

I did not announce. I explained. I said something that was misrepresented. What's the problem? Where's the dismissiveness? I reject your appeal to popularity as a valid argument. That's not being dismissive. That's being logical. Either road, I'm never surprised when people scurry away from the truth.

Re: Ghost in the Machine

I dismissed nothing. I offered an explanation for human behaviour in a chat room. The preacher says that if the priest does not solve your computer problems contact your local Geek Squad. I am not dismissing that. Pointing out where and how someone is wrong is not trolling. I know that the truth can...

Re: Where's the Proof?

Extraordinary claims require extraordinary evidence. In order to be 'scientific' a small number of requirements must be met. If they are not met, then it is not scientific. I have worked with many people who believe they were abducted by aliens, for instance. Sometimes they are explained by scientif...

Hi Tanya. My name is Sebastian. I am based in Chicago but I am able and willing to travel. The only things I have had published are peer reviewed articles in various psychiatry journals. I am not one for fiction (reading or writing). As always any services I render to the members of the Lazlo Societ...

Re: Ghost in the Machine

You are wrong. Again. You are the one with the straw man argument. You misrepresented "off switch" as being a literal, phyiscal switch. You were wrong. I told you you were wrong. You denied it. See, by telling me what I meant despite me telling you what I meant you built a straw man. You k...

Skeptic, 'You're plugged into a wall aren't you?' is not a question. It's a statement that seeks its own confirmation.
